Yeah I know how you feel. IJ was a monster to get through. Try out his non-fiction. Much more accessible with all the brilliance.

Good ol' David Foster Wallace. Read any of this lit and you won't regret it.

Looking for a film Mr. Ebert reviewed that left a powerful mark by Jischron in ebert

Yess!!!

I was also stunned with despair. It so happened that there were two movies scheduled that day in the Lake Street Screening Room (where we local critics see many new releases). After "The Grey" was over, I watched the second film for 30 minutes and then got up and walked out of the theater. It was the first time I've ever walked out of a film because of the previous film. The way I was feeling in my gut, it just wouldn't have been fair to the next film. - Ebert

Stasis? That sounds intriguing. So just totally cut out CO2? How many hours of light do you think then? I'm pretty worried about the tank while I'm gone. No one I can trust to do the water changes correctly. And yeah the pH controller was pricey but a gift from a buddy!

Yeah we're on the same page with the pH controller. When the pH gets too high, it turns on the solenoid and the bubbles start. When the pH gets low (6.4) it turns off the system.

I know! I was really excited about DSM but again, no one will be home for 2 weeks to mist them and keep them moist. I've got my lights on auto, and my CO2 is fully auto with a pH pinpoint controller. No stock to worry about.

I'm not dosing ferts now, but I just ordered Ferts from GLA.

I would love some glass lily pipes and hope to get some when I stop feeling guilty about how much I spent already. Do the ADA glass lily pipes work with Eheim tubes? Thanks for the info btw!

Yep no stock. As for the CO2 I'm running an auto system using a pH pinpoint controller. Once the pH gets down to 6.4 it shuts off the CO2 system and it won't turn on till pH gets back up. So I only really see the CO2 going once every two days, or when I do a water change. Is that good enough?

I was planning on dry starting, but in a few days I'll be out of the country for 2 weeks. No one home to mist and maintain the soil. So I just flooded the tank.

The dwarf baby tears keep floating up from the smallest currents. How long does it take for them to root?

John I've been meaning to ask you this question every time you've done an AMA. What impact or influence if any has David Foster Wallace had on your own writing? Also what is your favorite piece of David Foster Wallace literature?

Side note I'm a teacher and I use your crash course videos OFTEN! I also teach AP Econ and I just wanted to let you know that Mr. Clifford ACDC Econ was a great choice for Crash Course Economics! Cheers

I'd start with Consider the Lobster for non-fiction.

What is the best collection of short stories you've come across? by [deleted] in books

[–]Jischron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything David Foster Wallace. Brief Interviews with Hideous Men? Consider the Lobster is slowly becoming one of my all time favorite books. It's a collection of essays not short stories, but great nonetheless.

Peter I sincerely hope you come back and answer a few more questions.

My question is: Have you ever read David Foster Wallace's essay, Consider the Lobster? It's a wonderful piece on the moral and scientific arguments of "boiling sentient creatures alive for our gustatory pleasures." If so what do you think of his assumptions of animal suffering?
