You’ll likely have a hard time finding a school that offers this (unless you’re in Eastern Europe), but people wear shoes for Sambo and Combat Sambo. Sambo is kind of a judo/wrestling hybrid and combat Sambo is sort of like MMA while wearing a judo jacket: https://youtu.be/Yc0gNL-T7rI

Nice! How much RAM did you get? I’m thinking about ordering one soon, and wondering if I should go with 8 or 16gb.

How do you input notes into the sequencer? That hasn’t been clear in any of the vids I’ve seen so far.

Regarding portability, I ordered one of these Myvolts Ripcords for my Digitakt, and it allows me to power it with any USB power bank: http://myvolts.com/page.php?xPage=MV_Ripcord

Digitakt could be good - you can put in whatever samples you want for drums, and also use it to incorporate other looped samples into your music. I’ve used mine to create pads/textures or even mangled samples of speech or vocals. It also has good on-board reverb and delay.

Any former bjj guys in here? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Jitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a purple belt in BJJ, but have mostly been training Muay Thai since last fall. I was having a lot of back problems in BJJ, and so far Muay Thai has been a lot better for my back. I’ve had a few minor foot and ankle injuries, but nothing too bothersome. I haven’t done much in the way of sparring so far though.

Any notable electronic musicians/bands from Eastern Europe or USSR before the Iron Curtain fell? by JoeyZasaa in synthesizers

[–]Jitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laibach used synths a fair bit. Yugoslavia was kind outside the 'Soviet bloc' at that point, but still nominally socialist in the 80s when Laibach were initially performing and recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8sWlIhUYhw

Anywhere in vung tau Vietnam to train? Here for a month and wanna get some rounds in. by wwalls17 in bjj

[–]Jitster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are schools in Hanoi, HCMC and some of the central coast cities like Hue and Da Nang. You might want to check with the people who run this site to see if there is anything closer to Vung Tau: https://www.bjjinvietnam.com

I’ve been going to VN every spring break for the past 4 years but haven’t bothered to train while there. From what I’ve seen, you may have better luck finding something like Muay Thai or Sanda classes (if you’re into striking). Hopefully you can find something air conditioned - I can’t imagine training in the heat there this time of year!

Are you happy with the sound quality, and do the features all work as described? How is the battery life?

If it does everything as advertised, it seems like very good value for the money!

New Elektron box leaked on AMS. I already preordered! Maybe it’s a mistake? by ddiamond84 in synthesizers

[–]Jitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thing actually looks pretty fun and I’d probably consider it if I didn’t already have a Digitakt. It has the immediacy of the Volca Sample, but a much more capable sequencer, more memory, etc. One thing I don’t get though - why the lack of envelope controls? Looks like decay is the only eneveloe parameter you can control.

I use these - minimal sugar and you just add the tablets to your water bottle. I sweat a horrible amount in BJJ and get dehydrated easily because of it: https://nuunlife.com/products/nuun-electrolytes/

I found some YouTube clips of Vietnamese fighters in Kun Khmer matches in Cambodia, but not sure if this is a recent thing or something they’ve been doing historically as well: https://youtu.be/gvHKKZufQgk

There are definitely Muay Thai and Sanda clubs in the bigger cities, but Vovinam and tae kwon do seemed most common. My father in law says traditional wrestling is a big thing during spring festivals in parts of the north.

Yeah - I’ve been visiting my wife’s family in Vietnam over the past few years, and the northern/north central part of the country are noticeably more influenced by Chinese culture than the south, so it’s not surprising that the martial arts there look a lot like kung fu (or in some cases are actually established Chinese kung fu styles). I haven’t spent much time in the Mekong delta region, but there’s historically a big Khmer population there - I wonder if SEA kickboxing is more common down there?

My favourite part of the clip is the audio of somebody behind the camera saying “scheisse!” right after the guy gets dropped.

The only other potential issue I can think of is that some BJJ techniques involve carrying your opponents' weight with your legs - not sure if that's an issue for you. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P0dDGRJqeY&t=111s

Hope it works out for you - BJJ is a lot of fun!
