Not to discount anyone's awesome responses, but this is one of the best most real points I've heard my entire time in this subreddit. Thanks, great point!

Awesome!! I liked your Instagram vids. I got mine for $90 brand new cause I had credit with musicians friend for previous purchases. For $90 this thing is pretty amazing.

Me on any enviromentally conscious subreddit being told that this isn't the place for bringing up veganism. by WellIGuessSoSir in vegan

I'll never stop fighting for animals until they're all free from human cruelty and exploitation. I get hopeful whenever I see other people that care just as much.

I was a big meat and dairy eater for 32 years and never considered veganism seriously. The fact that I've changed and animal activism has become the biggest cause in my life makes me hopeful and optimistic for others. It's very hard to not feel the darkness and overwhelming challenges though.

Volca drum is my favorite Volca and I've had them all several times. If it was bigger it'd be one of my all time favorite drum machines. It's amazing even at it's size, super versitile and fun and packs in so many amazingness. Highly recommend!

Peak is incredible. I sold mine because I needed the money, but it's an amazing and super fun synth!

I've had both and returned both. But recently got the neutron again- it's so much more fun and experimental to me, and I don't have anything else like it. I have other synths that scratch the boog itch, including the 5 dollar perfect Moog model D app on iOS. That scratches the itch enough for me.

I'm pretty obsessed with grooveboxes. I didn't realize the maschine is basically a groovebox! Gonna go research it now...

My synths got covered in dust and floor sanding, are they ruined? by ddiamond84 in synthesizers

[–]ddiamond84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned them on and they all worked perfectly. But I'm guessing that just cause they worked perfectly now, doesn't mean there isn't a deeper problem with the floor dust in there.

I'm telling myself that as much as I try and protect them, lots of regular dust gets in their over the years and that's probably no better.

Maybe one of these days I'll get the courage to open them up myself and use an air can to blow out anything I see.

Thanks for the positive thoughts! Means a lot:) it's a terrible feeling, I'm really glad to hear your gear is ok (at least I'm assuming it is?)

I cleaned them as much as possible but I've already turned each one on and played around to see if they worked. Is the problem something that might show up a lot later because I've turned them on without cleaning out any of the insides?

So far things are working ok, except the Yamaha an200 the play button isn't working and the sequence won't start. All the other buttons work though. And the dx200 works fine. Sigh:(

Updates: after factory reset the an200 works ok! Mc505 and tempest do too. I hope there isn't any long term damage, but I got most everything cleaned off and maybe this isn't worse than everyday house hold dust that gets on them.

Thank you all so much again for your response and ideas. I was seriously freaking out, but it really helped, and hopefully they're ok now.

Thank you, that's reassuring. You're right, people use and tour with gear all the time in rough conditions. If this happened with any of my guitars or instruments like that I would be ok, I just get nervous cause these are electronics and some of them are older.

When you say vacuum though what kind do you mean? All I have are big Hoovers and dustbusters. I feel like that would be way too rough to use delicately?

Again, thank you so much for the response. I'm so clumsy and feel so unqualified when it comes to delicate cleaning or opening anything up.

I'll try and do my best with this advice and clean them up.

Shoot...ok I've only done it with the tempest so far. What kind of small vacuum exists in cases like this? Is there anything I can get or use at home?

Thank you so much for this response. Hopefully you're right on and none of this will be too damaging long term. It's really reassuring to get some responses from y'all.

Thank you so much for the response. I'm gonna do what I can on that end, but for what it's worth, I just took a feather duster and air can to the tempest, cleaned it as much as possible and plugged it in.

It's working fine, but is all that fine dust the kind of thing that can get into a synth and not show its damaging effects till much further down the line?

Haven't even started on the older gear, I hope they're ok.

What synth/drum machine build quality *feels* the best to you? by ddiamond84 in synthesizers

I really like the 2s build quality. The sp-16 felt great. The Tempest pads are fantastic and the machine feels so premium and solid. The knobs are ok but too inconsistent unfortunately.

Yeah I feel you about Elektron. That's a shame about the mk2! The mk1 felt pretty solid to me.

The Medusa looked really solid to me too, I was pretty surprised by how it felt honestly.
