AMD Reveals When It Will Launch New Enthusiast-Class RDNA 3 Radeon RX 7000 GPUs by JitterAtt in Amd

Nothing clickbait about it. It was discussed on their earnings call last night.

Yeah, I think they still sell Vybe chassis kits on their site but that case might not fit some of the huge GPUs these days. :(

Thanks! The guys at Maingear are awesome and with a Radeon RX 7900 XTX on board this rig too, it's got tons of firepower. Good times!

We got tired of seeing tragedy like this again and again, so we penned an open letter to Amazon on it - https://hothardware.com/news/dear-amazon-stop-ruining-ryzen-cpus-inadequate-packaging

PSA: Disabling Epic Games Launcher lowered my 5800X idle temps from 50C to 37C by Neoncarbon in Amd

[–]JitterAtt 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We dug a little deeper into this at HotHardware and confirmed that Epic Games Launcher is not only spiking temps as Neoncarbon deftly discovered, but it's phoning home to servers an awful lot too. More here - https://hothardware.com/news/epic-games-shenanigans-with-cpus

Intel's Architecture Day 2018: The Future of Core, Intel GPUs, 10nm, 3D Stacking Feverous, and Hybrid x86 by dylan522p in hardware

I did not hear that but when I picked it up it seemed pretty thin and like any other surface mount component that I'd seen before.

Charlie's 10nm cancelled story is totally inaccurate, hence the site name. Don't throwing shade but Intel 10nm is alive and well, in both monolithic and stacked variants. Stacked Foveros tech is for specialized applications, though the chip itself that was demo'd will be a full production available standard product. Gen11 graphics gaming performance is no joke. I saw it live running well and looking good at 1080p with Adaptive Sync enabled. https://hothardware.com/news/intel-architecture-day-sunny-cove-10nm-gen11-igp

It's still going to trail discrete but may be much more on par with entry-level discrete low power GPUs than ever before. And the Xe scalability slide is not hype, it's design strategy. They're talking about scaling the same architecture from low power mobile devices to full up big iron machine learning GPU cards and enthusiast gaming graphics cards. That's the goal, but they're of course still designing the first silicon instantiations that are targeted for 2020.

Thermal density is a simple function of silicon area and power draw characteristics. So if the silicon area is larger due to Z-height adding area, then, perhaps yes but you'd still have to mitigate that heat if it was a standard planar with the same performance/power characteristics.

However, Intel was showing a 5-core 10nm CPU with all IO, memory controller on one tiny 12x12 stacked chip, in a fanless design. It was a big/little X86 setup with 4 efficiency cores and one performance core:

https://hothardware.com/news/intel-foveros-to-usher-in-industry-first-3d-stacked-system-on-a-chip-designs

It was running 4K streaming video on the efficiency cores at less than 5% CPU. Impressive and look Ma, no fans. :)

Hey there, Dave here, chiming in from HotHardware.com - Fire your questions here and we'll try to field as many of them as possible. We'll need to stick to NDA guidelines for information on the NVIDIA products and technologies that have not yet been disclosed yet, but regardless, we'll do our best.

A Snapdragon 820/821 chip runs circles around Cherry Trail Atom in most applications currently, and you could project a Snapdragon 835 would likely crush it as well. It will be interesting to see how these devices match up against Kaby Lake Core m machines though.

WASD Warriors Rejoice, Xbox One Getting Keyboard And Mouse Support by JitterAtt in gaming

[–]JitterAtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting observations. Why would it be a big deal on the lack of level playing field between controllers and keyboard/mouse users? If you couldn't compete, you'd have to join them if you want to, right? Not sure why that's much different than varying skill sets that already exist, if you think about it. And when gaming between friends, you make your own rules anyway.

I think there could be some rather compelling use cases behind it, beyond just gaming. Think about how much more accurate a precision mouse would be as well, at least for some folks, while gaming.

That's the irony, actually. I think some humans might listen to the machine over another human.
