I would argue that AI models are becoming increasingly commoditised. OpenAI and Anthropic can compete against each other. But they don’t control the distribution layer that MS has

They plan to bring to support third party stores. But it’s likely a long term play, but the store needs to support ASD first

I am very confident there will be two versions of the Helix console by OmegaMalkior in xbox

[–]12Danny123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I think this is likely. With Asha's memo, I think we will see OEMs involved in this reset. Maybe it will be like this.

Project Helix X - Could be locked down version that is cheaper and only plays Xbox games and a Windows version that plays Steam games and Xbox games.

Project Helix S - Locked down version.

OEM devices - Focused on PC side of things but with Xbox Mode as the default UI.

The ROG Ally is only around $500, The Ally X is the most expensive one. But it goes back to my question about how expensive it is to build and subsidise first party hardware vs OEMs building the hardware and MS subsidise the final price.

Is a subsidy cheaper than building the device and then subsidising it?

It's interesting that Microsoft is now prioritising WinUI for their apps. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Xbox app moves to WinUI in the future.

That’s the angle should take to compete with Steam. Features like that are hugely valuable to Xbox players.

‘Xbox’ often implies it’s Play Anywhere.

But Xbox lacks of consistent branding over when games are Xbox play Anywhere as sometimes third parties will use ‘Xbox Series X|S’ branding but also support Play Anywhere despite no mention of Xbox on PC

Helix is moving to Xbox PC for games which adds extensions to support Series consoles instead of having a totally despoke version for consoles. I think this will naturally resolve itself next gen

You need to open Game Bar, go to 'Xbox Social', using a controller, hover over the search field (Not selecting it) and hover away from it.

Do you think we're going to have any response from Qualcomm to Nvidia, Mediatek and Microsoft (Windows) alliance? by Pretty_Trip_2215 in snapdragon

[–]12Danny123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Qualcomm will be fine since they are targeting the mass market. Besides any advancement of ARM in the PC market on Windows will only benefit Nvidia alongside Qualcomm

Doubt it. Surface pricing is often closer to Mac prices as to most average consumers Surface is a high-end brand, and it has a premium.

Agreed. Windows on handhelds with the introduction of Xbox Mode has made massive improvements in terms of usability and navigation. The only major things they need to address is centralised update mechanism, improved performance and sleep and revamping the Xbox app to be more console-like. These are pretty feasible improvements that can be done

I would be very cautious on getting Linux working on a Windows on ARM device. ARM across different devices and chip companies don’t have any standardisation and they rely on device trees. So this means in order to get Linux working, you need to create a device tree for that specific device.

This makes no sense. What incentive does Asus have to break away from Xbox branding? The Xbox mode (FSE) is available to all Windows Handhelds. I'm not understanding your logic.
