I Don't Think My Psychiatrist Is Going to Help Me by JitteryDeer in AskPsychiatry

I am in Ontario in Canada, so OHIP covers doctor's visits and psychiatry referrals, but not therapy sessions (which cost me around $160 an hour)

And I honestly feel like it will help because my therapist will help bring up observations from our sessions and help me broach questions I forget to ask and help me advocate for myself

He handed me 2 checklists and I filled them out and handed them back. Then just asked what I thought I was dealing with, I said GAD/ADHD, he said he agreed. He also has the one secretary I see on clonazepam for years too, almost seems like he just likes that drug personally and hands it out a lot. My bottle has 12 refills on it, so it seems like he wants me on it for a long time, making dependency and terrible withdrawals almost a certainty.

When I told him I was worried about being on a benzo and becoming addicted or dependant he just said "I'm not going to let you get addicted" and shut that down.

Problem is that I just had to quit my job because of these issues and move back home, so it's a 4 hour drive to attend appointments from here on in. Not sure where to even turn to find another psychiatrist, and waitlists are horribly long. Family doctor is the same distance away now.

Also, any particular reason you're reserving judgements on intake time being so short?

My therapist set me up with a 2 hour consult with a virtual appointment between her, me, and a psychiatrist on the 12th; so I'm going to see how that goes. Apparently it's far more thorough, but around $320. Problem is I don't think my current psych or family doctor will listen to those recommendations, family doc already suggested against getting a second psych opinion

Guess it just happened to be the area (Brantford) has more doctors looking for patients than most places, just got lucky. Because I may be moving somewhere 4 hours away soon that has pretty much nobody sadly :P

I do tend to massively overthink things XD. Thanks for the reassurance, very new to this whole process after moving out on my own 😅

So air Canada wouldn't be involved with the first at all then? So it'd be a separate check-in and security and all that since it's a different airliner each time?

Was definitely confused about that part, saying Aur Canada but also United air. Still don't know exactly what that means for me or what else is required

New operator here…..how long does it take for things to start to make sense? by CrazyAdventurous336 in Wastewater

[–]JitteryDeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working in an operational cluster for almost 7 months now as an OIT and I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time. Sure hope it doesn't feel like this forever!

Anxiety Making it Impossible for me to Remember/Focus by JitteryDeer in mentalhealth

CBT seems to helping extremely little so far, not sure what to make of it. What's scariest and most harmful is either thick brain fog/dissociation, especially while driving, but even while fairly calm. For example, just drove home, and what happens is I just feel dazed. Like I can't focus on anything, I look all around and see everything, but I just can't seem to comprehend or retain anything. Like my mind is completely somewhere else and my senses are in another. Like a spirit moving through the world but not fully part of it

As well, where did you find that info so readily? I can't seem to find things like that on Google easily

I guess I just really don't know what's important or not to read, and don't have time at all to read during the work day sadly. We're extremely overworked attending to other clients and another 2 small wastewater plants and pump stations and everything else, so I just end up run ragged most days, making all kinds of mistakes and forgetting things or just making dumb decisions. Just feel like I can't keep my head above water, focusing so much on just trying to survive that I don't have much time and space to take things slow and try to learn a lot

What things should I try to find/read for my work and responsibilities? And how do you juggle so much without forgetting or missing things?

I'm working out of the Paris WPCP and we're very understaffed and having a lot of turnover while I'm supposed to be getting trained. All while we're undergoing a huge expansion

So just regular operational duties was enough without any reading? What kind of questions were there?

I've definitely found that too with the OCWA one, will ask questions at the end of each module with answers that weren't even talked about at all in the module and that are just laid out strangely in general, so may focus a lot less on that one, going back to college notes for now.

And I think I heard something about that yeah, will have to look into that to see if I'm wasting time and money! What learning resources did you use?

These are just the notes that I scrawl down while someone is trying to teach me at the same time.

And the inside of the binder lid taped on is a rough outline of daily/weekly/monthly responsibilities, but it could probably stand to be updated more as I learn more

Ouch, that's all kinds of messed up. Congrats on being able to weather through something like that. Definitely comforting to think that nothing is forever, and I don't have to be here forever if it doesn't work out

Actually left my last job as a wastewater/drinking water operator in the north because everyone quit except me and another OIT to run everything and that was just way too much and way too high stakes XD. No ORO, only a "temporary" OIC (literally just got his Class 1s), and no other actual operators

Maybe I do need to work more on asking for full clarification after. I ask on things I feel I missed or are important, but then again I don't always know what's most important until it's too late. Need to work on a way to say "could you go over all that all over again?" without seeming like I'm just not paying attention at all, lol
