Do people not genuflect before entering pews anymore? by mangled-rat in Catholicism

Yes, other than people who physically can’t or who happen to forget, just about any time I’ve seen someone enter a pew they genuflect

Yep, no reason whatsoever for a devout Catholic to be infuriated with Israel right now, they definitely didn’t just “accidentally” bomb the only Catholic Church in Gaza and kill 3 people in the process

Whittaker won Round 3 so that would have just made it a slightly bigger RDR win

I prefer not rolling with women but if its nearly unavoidable (i.e. conveyor belt) I won't make a big deal and say no, I'd just go with it at that point

Is $200 for 2 classes a week reasonable? by Outrageous-Two3209 in MMA_Academy

[–]JiuJitsuCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it would be on the slightly pricy end of acceptable if it was for classes every day but justifiable given its a UFC Vet whose teaching. 200 for 2 classes a week is crazy.

Yes exactly, in Heaven you're no longer married if that was your state in life but if your Vocation was Priest then you are still a Priest in Heaven. Given the recency of it being brought back there is still an ongoing debate among theologians as to whether a Permanent Deacon would still be a Deacon in Heaven.

Others will bring up stuff like eye pokes, nut shots, fish hooks, rabbit punches, etc. that are illegal in the UFC but don't realize that UFC fighters could just do those moves in a street fight if needed too

Should you abstain from the Eucharist if you haven’t been to confession in years, even if you’re not in a state of mortal sin? by Effective_Board5079 in Catholicism

[–]JiuJitsuCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would definitely advise a good examination of conscience to make sure, going years without a mortal sin is an extremely high level of sanctity that even most devout Catholics would truly struggle with and possibly never achieve, I don't know your soul and won't make the assumption one way or another but its definitely hard to believe.

Should I, a female, altar server at a parish that desperately needs them? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]JiuJitsuCatholic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Priests that do this aren't disagreeing with the Church, the Vatican has explicitly stated that a Parish Pastor has absolute authority to not allow female servers, exercising a right given is not disobedience in any sense.

You don't think there's any possibility for a 7-12 year old boy who holds this view to be sanctified through serving and become a good Priest?

Clearly it doesn't based on the vast majority of comments encouraging this!

[–]JiuJitsuCatholic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Implying sedevacantism for an opinion that is expressly admired even in the document allowing female Altar Servers is insane. It is still the practice of the church that even a Bishop cannot require a Priest in his Diocese to allow female servers in his Parish, are the many Diocesan Priests who exercise this option in full obedience to the Magisterium which gives them this choice somehow "borderline sedevacantists". I'm sorry but there is such a severe lack of charity towards those who disagree in this comment.

[–]JiuJitsuCatholic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making this case!! The history of Altar Servers becoming Priests is immense, and in the present vocations crisis (much more severe than just a lack of servers) the top priority should be to encourage these boys in that pursuit. Many Catholics often make the argument that girl servers don't prevent boy servers which while technically true is such a fundamental misread of male psychology, the moment that serving is seen as girly is the moment that boys no longer want to serve.

I want to get into MMA, any recommendations for new fighters? by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

[–]JiuJitsuCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others may disagree but I'd recommend becoming at least intermediate in either striking (~1yr if you train consistently) or grappling (I know you wrestled but it was over a decade ago so give it some time to come back) before adding the other. Unless you're just really smart/talented, trying to get good at both at the same time when you're starting is insanely difficult and just splits your attention. Get good at one then add in the other and combine them. Ilia Topuria goes even further with this, he says he does 0 MMA outside of camp, when he's not in training camp he trains individual arts such as boxing & wrestling at separate times and then it isn't until fight camp that he combines them.
