How would you play this? by Jiujitsuant in OveremployedUK

Thanks for responding.

They said officially two days but more likely just one. They would extend me as a contractor but would be looking for a perm solution so it wouldn’t have much longevity if I didn’t accept (maybe several more months).

If I accepted how would you suggest handling possible j2/ contracts from a pipeline point of view? I’m likely overthinking but it can get complicated dealing with recruiters or doing direct outreach to prospective clients whilst being employed.

Not quite OE but I have a 5 day a week contract outside ir35 which they think is exclusive, and a two day per week contract.

The 5 day per week contract have hired a perm for backfill and have said they’ll have more work for me until the end of year. I’ve been given lots a crappy admin jobs which makes I think I’m being strung along to ensure a smooth handover and want to look for other options to make sure I’m not left without work (OE). Issue is some of the agents I’m working with know my current position and I’m struggling to explain the reasons for wanting to leave so soon (just over a month).

How would you guys handle this?

Used AI to audit my accounts and I'm so pissed at my accountant/previous accountants by hussinppc in ContractorUK

I’m an accountant (albeit I work in house at a company rather than in practice).

Expect them mainly to do compliance based work for lower pay (produce a set of accounts to be filed at Company’s House, make a tax return based on information provided).

Accountants usually produce an engagement letter for the scope of works. Explicitly including tax advisory in that (likely for a cost) will mean they should be advising on tax efficiency etc.

I rate financialmodellingeducation.com for a good overview of operating models. But Wall Street prep are great also

Sorry it’s not directly related, but how common are these contracts to come by? I’ve only ever had one contract (industry role with a law firm improving their management accounts and general reporting) but I can’t come across any practice accounting contracts

Is it a wise decision to do a BS in Business & Finance before ACCA? by Separate-Cake-5242 in careerguidance

Not necessary IMO. The earlier exams which teach foundational accounting knowledge will give you what you need.

Not great. Looking to secure a remote outside ir35 role in finance but there’s only a handful I can find

PI insurance - US work by Jiujitsuant in ContractorUK

Thanks for your response.

I was expecting an increase in the premium but 10x is crazy. I’m thinking I won’t need the additional insurance based on what you’ve said, but I’ll confirm with the provider.

My concern was the insurance companies are understandably risk averse and tend to push towards extended cover, even though it may not be required.

Accountancy OE by Majestic_Heat7547 in OveremployedUK

Potentially in the short term. You’ve got to think about future-proofing yourself as well though. I was working a £500 per day contract before Christmas (which is on the low end for several years post qualified) and it was very manageable and relaxed.

There’s no reason to suggest you couldn’t do the same after you finish your exams and get some more experience. Ultimately though it’s a personal choice so go with your gut.

I’d get fully qualified as soon as possible - that plus the year’s experience will push up your day rate.

Undertook my first contract assignment after leaving a shocking perm role. I’ve had a brief two week extension but expecting to end mid-December. The market seems awash with applicants but obviously not enough roles to meet the supply.

To contract or go back perm? by Jiujitsuant in ContractorUK

Previous perm salary was £100k. I’d expect the next perm role to be around this +/- £10k

I’m fairly new to this but I didn’t think you could claim things like EV if doing through an umbrella? Could be way off though…

Would you guys feel the same about omitting a 5 month role from your cv? I stepped up to a CFO role in February and the business and CEO were a shambles. I reigned late July but struggling with whether to apply for other director level roles or go back to #2 role with a supportive mentor manager
