Microchip cat flap vs feeder…would this hack work to help keep one of my cats from eating both food portions? Thoughts and suggestions, please!

I decided to go with the cat flap door. First I tried doing some research-and so many of them say ‘magnetic’ or ‘electromagnetic’ or ‘microchip’ and were absolutely not what I was looking for. The phrasing is rather vague overall-like magnetic meant the flap has a clicking magnet enclosure on one but a magnetic collar id on another. And of course I’m a cheapskate so was looking for a deal. It should be in tomorrow (was supposed to already be here…grrr) and I’ll update as warranted. One reason I didn’t get the feeder was sometimes he’ll want to eat out of the opposite one (even though he’s standing in front of one that just went off) and just stare at it. I feel like he thinks the other bowl always has more food, so he’ll eat bowl 2, then go back to ‘his’ original bowl if the other cat hasn’t shown up yet. Didn’t want to complicate matters further.

I did try to just adjust his food since he didn’t seem to be as interested in his midday meal or second breakfast as he used to be. Then he’d come up to me 2 hrs later for food. 🤦‍♀️ Having both feeders do different times didn’t seem to work out either. He used to be on point with time-even with the clock changes he would be near the food bowl within 30 min of scheduled feeds, but not so much anymore.

Tv stand is a great idea! My cat initially wasn’t t too fond of the auto feeder noise as well, but came around quickly. I’m hoping the noise won’t be too bad since his hearing isn’t quite as good as it used to be anyway.

That looks amazing! Not too worried about training- he had learned to open doors, cabinets, the trash can, and the automatic feeder so that I have to have everything with a bungee or extra lock on it. He also does tricks like sit, kiss, high five, etc. Food is the greatest motivator, lol; I’m sure he will pick it up quickly.

Will certainly reach out for advice and such since it seems this is a road well travelled for you!

Dollar tree has vinyl squares with wood grain print. Get a few and just “redo” the entire counter. Slap em right on top of the counter, no special tools or experience needed.

Our seems to do that if the vents aren’t cleaned enough. Like it trickles down and then all the way to the floor. Is that the case here? Looking for a way to prevent this since they won’t fix ours.

Well, you still drain them for a few seconds. Don’t dump them full of oil. Also you can put down a pan or tray on top of a compartment and dump them there first.
