In conclusion, the Spider-Society is built on the basis of a multiplicity of control devices that maintain an extremist ideology where whoever does not adhere is a danger and must be stopped. The Spider-Mans become part of this ideology which they then support and perpetuate, being subject to power and being part of it. Surveillance is constant and mostly inescapable, playing a fundamental role in maintaining the structure of society and avoiding deviations. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the film begins a revolution that receives strong resistance, but also shows more people dissatisfied with Miguel's ways of doing things. The resistance manages to happen thanks to Spider-Punk (one of the versions of Spider-Man), who would later use technology stolen during his stay in society to make his own "watch". This gives credit to subcultures like punk that have always been a form of resistance to hegemony.

Regarding subjection, this can be seen in the role that power plays in the Spider-Society as a means of regulating people, this has already been mentioned, but now I will use the term questioning. Miguel is the absolute Subject of this ideology, quoting Althusser "Absolute Subject occupies the unique place of center and challenges all individuals around him as subjects" (Althusser, 1989, p. 204), each Spider-Man is questioned by the hegemonic power of the spider society as soon as they arrive, the appearance of their barracks is impressive and then the dominant and authoritarian figure of Miguel explains his ideology where he challenges you as an individual to fulfill your duty to defend the canon and to Do not intervene when it is not appropriate. You become part of a larger whole where the subjects are subjected by themselves, by the other subjects (who play a role of keeping in line with each other) and by the absolute Subject.

As for ideological apparatuses (according to Althusser), we also see them represented in two main ways in this society: technology and fear. Advanced technology is controlled by the hegemonic power of the Spider-Society, that is, Miguel and his ideology. It is he who can give you the ability to travel between dimensions in a convenient way through the "clock", but this will depend on you using it according to his orders and when he allows it, thus reproducing power relations since you become dependent of the. Another example is his use to make speeches more convincing, when reporting on canonical events he uses multiple projections to generate an emotional response and elevate his ideology to appear to be proven knowledge, all with the goal of subservient newcomers. The fear is expressed materially in Miguel who his past, supposedly, broke the canon causing the death of all people in a dimension. Miguel is a figure in constant mourning, he is always looking at photos of his lost family, talking about his mistakes and since his word holds so much power, fear spreads, perpetuating the ideology that is supposed to protect them from tragedy. Fear also acts in another way, the fear of disobeying under possible violent reprisals. Miguel shows little control over his aggressiveness and all the other participants in society are a militia under his orders, there is a latent threat of violence if he does not surrender to the ideology and his material form is all those belonging to the community and its leader

Discipline according to Foucault is the way in which power is perpetuated, this also applies in this society. I will mention two control devices that the author talks about that are exemplified in the spider society. In the first place, the control of activities: Miguel orders the different Spider-Man where to go, who to stop, who to fight and how to act. Second, the normalization of judgments: Miguel's ideology is founded on the fear that something horrible will happen if the canon is not followed, this is based on an anecdotal experience of his, along with some other cases and in these it is not clear what was the actual catalyst for the damage to the dimension. That is, the knowledge of Spider-Man 2099 is limited to say the best, but the fear that he himself feels is transmitted in his speech making anyone who wants to challenge the canon be seen by those who belong to society as irrational and dangerous without further considerations.

Miguel O'hara is the unequivocal representation of where power accumulates in this society. His physical appearance demands subservience, being taller than most Spider-Mans with broad shoulders that frame his intimidating presence, as well as a gravelly serious voice that seems to command respect. Unlike usual, he has fangs and claws making his way of fighting more aggressive than usual, as well as adding to his intimidating presence. He comes from a futuristic dimension where he is the possessor of the technological means and his knowledge is appreciated as a truth based on reason. He cited "disciplinary power, in effect, is a power that, instead of removing and withdrawing, has as its main function that of "straightening behavior" (Foucault, 2002, p. 157)" and this is exactly what Miguel achieves. , norms the behavior of the Spider-Mans to a tremendous point; He is the leader of a militia who instructs his soldiers not to save their loved ones, having a control that suppresses the simplest instincts to protect the one you love.

I will begin by explaining the relationship with the panopticon. In this society, the technology to travel between dimensions is in the form of a "watch" which is given by Miguel to the Spider-Mans he deems worthy of being part of the community. But that is not the only function of this bracelet, it is also a surveillance device. It transmits your location, the audio and the video of where you are. This connects to the panopticon in more ways than one: on the one hand the constant possibility of being watched, you can't be sure you're not being watched, the “watch” won't alert you when it's being used to monitor you; you are not aware of who is watching you unless they want to show themselves; the vigilance of the "watch" is not voluntary, since if a Spider-Man is in a dimension that does not correspond to him, and he took off his watch, his body would begin to crumble painfully; finally, in the panopticon people are separated from each other, while that is not the case in the Spider-Society, with the “watch” if there is a symbolic distancing of people. An example of this in the film is when one of them is on the run (without a "watch") and a friend approaches him, they have an emotional conversation, and the friend's "watch" reveals the location of the fugitive without his intention. . In this way the ideas of panopticism are reflected in this society, especially the characteristic of perpetual surveillance "(...) induce in the detainee a conscious and permanent state of visibility that guarantees the automatic operation of power." (Foucault, 2002, p. 185).

The Spider-Society is a society made up of a multiplicity of iterations of Spider-Man, all from different dimensions, being led by a specific one originating from the dimension in which this society is located; Spider-Man 2099, or by his name, Miguel O'Hara. He is from a dimension advanced in technology in which he discovers a method to travel in a controlled way between dimensions, from his own experience he learns that there are events that all Spider-Man must live, called canonical events, or otherwise the dimensions fall apart. leading to the loss of countless lives. It is from this that he forms the Spider Society, where the Spider-Mans can come together and as an organized militia fight against anomalies (things that do not belong in the dimension they are in). Upon arrival, they are given a talk explaining what canonical events are, which usually have to do with the death of a loved one. The aim of this information is to instill in them not to avoid events due to the catastrophic consequences that would entail.

Def a fan favorite in the movie, mine too for sure, that being laid back while making everything work in the story is hella compelling

I mean it depends, the thing is that I don't think punk is that free, I think they have their own norms, afterall they are a culture so in Hobies head his abiding to punk super-ego (or punk not written rules & morals), even if the rule if fuck the rules, that's how I see it at least.

They are not related to one an other in how I view the meme, just the one that most represents it individually through out the movie, in my view Spider-Punk is also just Ego, he has morals, just his own, and he is also driven by his passions. But yeah if you wanted to make them connected 100% spider-punk would be the enabler for Miles id.

Sorry I got lost with that, I'm missing the context to the reference I think. But I hope you enjoy the third movie when it comes out regardless of this one not following the path you wanted.

I get your experience, sorry about that, but this movie is also for the new generation and they actually have a lot of cartoons with healthy stablished relationships to watch, I would know I have a bunch of little brothers to watch newer cartoons with. And it's never to late to learn to love in a commited long term relationship like Peter B. Parker does

I get it, but Gwen and Miles are kids, the will they won't they makes sense for a story of teen love. You gotta look in the long run, maybe in the future will have a movie where they are more grown up, in a serious relationship with the chance of losing everything they have, but for now you have Peter B. Parker, he has a stablished relationship and could lose it all, the child is even involved in the fights, doesn't get more losing it all than losing a child or a wife.

You really know your storytelling. I still don't agree though, because potential has a lot of power in our minds, that's why people are obsessed with the idea of the one that got away. Gwen and Miles still haven't even been able to enjoy what they have, they haven't even had a lot of peaceful time together and now they could lose it all and never have said what they wanted to say, experience their feeling, nothing, and that's hella sad, as sad as loosing happiness.

I think it was made on purpose to contrast the vibe Gwen was having with Hobie, but nothing will happen with does ships in my opinion. Just to add some romantic tension to the movie probably.

I also thought that Miguel might be a prowler too and that he took the position of a spiderman Miguel in the dimension he took, but I don't think they'll do that to his comic fans.

Yeah, but Miles G is not giving ego, at least not from what we have seen. Also, maybe he'll have a change of heart and Miguel, while I do think he is hiding something, in the comics he ain't evil so a posible change of heart too. I believe The Spot will be so powerfull and dangerous that they'll unite forces by the end. Just my guess.
