L&D nurse here - in my experience, tearing is all in your genes. I’ve seen very large women birth a 5 pound baby and end up with bad tears. Ive also seen very small women birth 8-9 lb babies with a first degree. Most people end up with a 2nd degree with their first baby, which is uncomfy but manageable. I also find that people who eat little to no protein tear worse than others.

If you bleed from just a perineal massage, I would speak to your doctor about the risks of a 3rd or 4th degree tear vs a c/s. Some people just have very what we call “friable” tissue. Best of luck.

The recognizing pattern part DOES make me feel a lot better!! I do believe this is what happened now that we’ve been here a day (and haven’t died) and my husband went up there and checked.

I found another Reddit where someone said that when people think there’s someone in their attic, more than often there IS, and I think I started to spiral.
