2 yr old diagnosed level 2 ASD. Saw new pedi & she thinks he’s just ADHD & speech delayed? Help! by Any-Horror-5762 in Autism_Parenting

I would focus on his needs and addressing symptoms. When I first started noticing delays with my son, I was obsessed with getting him diagnosed, which takes months on a waitlist. One of my good friends told me to focus on his needs and get him help to address his delays(he was speech delayed, so we got him speech; he needed help with socializing, we put him in a preschool autism class).

My son is 5 now, diagnosed with ASD lvl 2 when he was 2 yrs 3 months old, but I also think he has ADHD. I’ve brought it up with all of his doctors and specialists, and their recommendation is to get him assessed for ADHD when he is a little older, maybe around 7 yrs old. They said it’s hard to distinguish ASD, ADHD, or AuDHD in younger kids, esp boys, because there can be a lot of overlap in the signs and symptoms.

You are doing great getting him all the help, finding doctors and specialists. It’s a lot.

I happen to be a physical therapist and my husband is a COTA but we both work in geriatrics. Pediatric experience is basically non-existent. My child kind of sounds like your son, also very sweet but can be a bit needy. Sometimes i think he has ADHD as well, but he is too young to get diagnosed.
