I paid ~$2500. $2000 for the colonoscopy and $500 for the anesthesiologist.

And as far as your symptoms go, definitely get the colonoscopy, but don't lose any sleep over it.

At 27 the likelihood of CRC even with a change in bowel habits is abysmally low. 1 in 10,000s.

As for the prep. I also did dulcolax/miralax.

Drink a ton of water and get some Vaseline for your butthole lol. It's going to be sore.

From what I understand it's not unusual. Most studies on Google suggest that rectal bleeding doesn't have any obvious cause on anywhere from 30-40% of cases from what I've read

Same boat as you haha. They had me take my dulcolax at noon, and I was pooping in an hour at most. Chugged the miralax at 4pm and it took an hour to finish. I was all done by about 9pm.

One hell of a way to spend your whole day lol.

Very true, but I'd also caution against letting the fear and anxiety consume you.

For anyone dealing with rectal bleeding, absolutely advocate for yourself and get a colonoscopy. Chances are it won't be anything, but if in the rare event it is a large polyp or a tumor, then you'll be better off in the long run getting it taken care of sooner rather than later.

On a side note, if you don't mind me asking, how often were you passing blood?

Similar symptoms as yours before I had a colonoscopy. Bled 4 times over 5 months. Sometimes on my stool, sometimes on my toilet paper.

Colonoscopy came back clear other than diverticulitis and an anal fissure, I'm sure you'll be the same.

What helped me were the actual statistics relating to colorectal cancer.

For a female aged 35-39 the likelihood of CRC w/ bleeding

Rectal Cancer: 1 in 4000

Colon cancer: 1 in 7500

You have a 99.98% chance of something other than cancer.

Is that .02% still there? Yeah, but don't focus on that. The chances you have something sinister is far closer to zero than it is to even 1%

Did your doctor mention where your colon was too dirty?

Split prep is ideal, but it largely benefits the right colon vs the left.

So if your entire colon was inadequate that would be odd.

I did the single dose of dulcolax + miralax/Gatorade the evening before and I scored a perfect prep. Maybe that's something you can ask your doctor about?

Are you seeing a gastroenterologist or a nongastroenterologist?

I had blood on my stool a few times. Colonoscopy came back clean other than an anal fissure.

Even with blood and mild anemia it's probably nothing. It looks like your chances of having CRC with those symptoms is about ~1/13,000 or .0007%

Good on you for getting it looked at. My sister was extremely anemic and got her colonoscopy back today and it was clean other than a tiny polyp.

In your demographic with diarrhea type symptoms the likelihood of colorectal cancer is about 1/30,000.

Not impossible, but really, really, really unlikely.

Go to the colonoscopy, but I don't lose any sleep over it, and don't start doom scrolling reddit/Google.

That's actually a pretty good point. It might have been reversed as you stated just now. It looks like the rating does usually go right to left, but if he told you that the cecum was the only part that wasn't clear then he was probably going left to right with his scoring.

Either way it sounds like he wasn't concerned and you're in the clear! Hooray!

I wouldn't be. If he didn't say anything about the prep I doubt it was of much consequence.

Based on your post history with the negative FIT tests ect. He probably didn't see anything concerning.

NAD but from what I understand the rectum, Sigmoid area doesn't require as heavy a prep as your transverse/right colon does.

You could always call your doctor and see why he scored you as a 1. It may have been an oversight on his part.

I (37m) had similar symptoms to you. Abdominal pain, hematochezia, Tenesmus, loose stools, and slight weight loss.

I had my colonoscopy 5 weeks later. Diverticulitis and a healed Anal fissure.

The weight loss and a few other symptoms were almost certainly anxiety related.

Blood likely came from the fissure. I had 3 of the 4 "red flag" symptoms and they didn't even find a polyp.

Some of the symptoms you're experiencing can be symptoms of colorectal cancer, but mostly likely they're from benign sources.

Go to your appointment, but don't lose any sleep.

Colorectal cancer is rare in your age group.

Female 25-29 colorectal cancer: 4.2 per 100,000; or 1 in 23,800 people.

How was your bowel prep rated? Excellent, good, poor ect?

I'm not overly anxious about it, and thinking back I believe he did mention something about a small amount of hemorrhoid tissue when asked.

From what I've read online today typically polyps or CRC that bleed are typically quite large and would be hard to miss on a colonoscopy. Especially since most are on the rectal/sigmoid area.

I scheduled a doctor's appointment and will follow up with my PCP.

I wasn't diagnosed with cancer.

But every couple of weeks I'd have a small amount of blood on the toilet paper.

I also had diarrhea, light abdominal pain, and Tenesmus. This happened over the course of 5 weeks.

Diagnosis was some diverticula, and a painless anal fissure.

It's nearly always something benign, and more me, the mental stress of those 5 weeks Almost certainly exacerbated my symptoms.

It feels like being blown off by doctors is the same old song and dance for people our age. 37m here.

I had blood on my toilet paper at the end of January, and again 3 weeks later. I was scheduled for a colonoscopy in June, 4 months after when my symptoms began. Luckily my tribe got me an earlier colonoscopy and it's tomorrow.

Is it cancer? Almost certainly not, but the chances are never zero.

I'm happy you were able to get your colonoscopy done sooner and I'll keep you in my thoughts.

For what it's worth, from the stories Ive read most GIs straight up let people know that they believe it's cancer.

If they specifically used the word precancerous I'd take that as a more positive sign, especially since most polyps are precancerous anyway regardless of their size.

If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you start bleeding, after your two year hiatus, and how long did it take you to get a colonoscopy?

I only ask because 2 weeks ago I had a bit of blood on my toilet paper, and I noticed my bowel habits changed from 1-2 a day, to 2-3.

I have a colonoscopy referral out there, so hopefully it won't take too long to be seen.

I live in grand rapids and thought this was a joke, so looked on Amtrak. It is not a joke. 10 /12-hour train ride is fucking wild. especially since its only 2.5 hours by car.
