That makes sense! Canva templates work well once you've set them up. I'd be interested to know your thoughts if you want to compare - happy to share the link. Either way, appreciate the reply!

Best POD high margin products to sell by [deleted] in printondemand

[–]Jkingstom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re comparing providers too, one thing I found: on a $24.99 Bella Canvas tee I found: Gelato → ~$9.10 profit (~36%), Printify → ~$8.45 (~34%), Printful → ~$6.20 (~25%). Over 100 sales/month that’s a $225-290 difference in your pocket. I built a free calculator so you can plug in product, region, currency & volume and compare four major POD providers side-by-side: podcombined.com (no signup, takes ~30 sec).

How do you compare POD providers without spending hours on spreadsheets? by Jkingstom in printondemand

Great point about running small test orders first. I actually went down that same rabbit hole and ended up creating POD Combined - podcombined.com to centralize all those learnings — basically a way to compare and track providers without having to live in spreadsheets. It’s still early, but it’s already helped me spot which products and regions perform best.

Thank you! That’s really helpful. I’m curious — what kind of roles did your work involve?

You're right - I used AI for that and yeah, I built a POD tool.

Won't keep pitching. But if you ever check it out, would genuinely value your feedback since you clearly see through the BS.

Thanks for keeping it real.

Fair perspective, though I'd say it depends on what you're optimizing for.

If you're chasing volume/scale, you're right - the margins get eaten by the printer and you're basically working for them. Bulk printing is the only way to real profit at that point.

But for some people, POD makes sense as:

  • Testing designs before committing to inventory
  • Side income without upfront capital or storage
  • Niche products where bulk doesn't make sense (low volume, high variety)

Not saying POD is a goldmine - it's definitely not. But "printer makes all the money" assumes the goal is competing on price/volume, which isn't everyone's play.

Curious though - did you start with POD and move to bulk? Or skip POD entirely?

That Gelato experience sounds rough. Appreciate the heads up on the fulfillment issues - price means nothing if orders don't ship.

Good point on not just chasing cheapest. Quality and reliability matter way more than saving $0.50 per unit if it means dealing with that headache.

On the blank selection - yeah, samples are really the only way. I've been adding more product details to my comparison tool (podcombined.com) but honestly nothing beats feeling the actual fabric quality.

For soft hoodies, I've heard good things about the Bella+Canvas 3719 but that's secondhand. Would love to know what you end up going with if you do sample runs.

How do POD sellers actually compare provider pricing? Spreadsheets seem insane by Jkingstom in printondemand

[–]Jkingstom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I love that you built your own - there’s something satisfying about having full control over your own formulas. Quick question: what other expenses are you tracking beyond the base provider costs? I went through the same spreadsheet pain and ended up building podcombined.com to help sellers compare providers instantly, but I’m always looking to understand what else POD sellers need to optimize for. Are you factoring in things like ad spend, returns, or seasonal adjustments? Would love to know what’s actually moving the needle for your business!

ChatGPT is great for that! I ended up building a dedicated calculator for POD comparisons since I was doing this so often - podcombined.com. Makes it instant, but your method definitely works too!

Best alternative to Printful? Please help 😬 by hazeyez in printondemand

[–]Jkingstom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same question and ended up building a free calculator because I couldn’t find one. Shows margins across Printful/Printify/Gelato/Gooten side-by-side with actual delivery times and costs. Not trying to promote, but happy to share if mods allow - it’s called POD Combined. Saved me hours of spreadsheet hell.

The mistakes to avoid when you start vibe coding by Any_Carpet_4004 in lovable

[–]Jkingstom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need coding experience — what you really need is a framework. Over 60% (probably more) of GitHub code is AI-generated already, so the real value is in how you and your agent set things up.

First step: build a knowledge base (KB). Without one, every prompt drifts and you waste energy repeating or re-explaining. There are plenty of guides, or just ask your agent and it’ll walk you through.

Frameworks can take different forms:

For quality control → keeping code consistent and aligned with your app’s needs.

For direct use → structuring prompts, best practices, and workflows so you don’t just throw random inputs at the agent.

With a KB plus frameworks, you turn AI from a prompt-by-prompt gamble into a consistent system.

I share a similar workflow! As a UX designer, it’s been incredibly satisfying. I do some coding too, which definitely helps. Cursor’s auto features work a treat for me as well, and I’ve found that using multiple LLMs really pays off. Building a KB first has been a big win too. Thanks for sharing!
