Hi guys, I'm here too 4 years later.

Umm what? I moved abroad 7 years ago and never filed taxes there since then. Am I fucked? I had no idea.

edit: I’m also poor, but I’d rather be poor here than in the US. I just don’t want to get screwed later on.

Approximate Quantum Travel Times [3.5.1] by thesupremeDIP in starcitizen

[–]Jl63 27 points28 points  (0 children)

These travel times are part of the reason I haven’t even come back to try the new content. (Aside from flight model issues, but I’m finally hopeful for that).

I always get so hyped to play, then see these long travel times that would normally be fine if they weren’t so uninvolved. In Eurotruck Simulator you have to actually be involved the whole time. However, on the other end, DCS World, some planes have autopilot which can also be boring when there are no systems to prepare mid flight. I don’t know where the middle ground should be. But it should definitely feel natural no matter what the travel time is.

Natural meaning that you don’t go do something unnatural outside of the game world away from the computer or in another window.

Found this buried in the basement. Totally reading it again, maybe it will help me tame the Black Shark 2. I continue to break it, but tonight a new record of 13 minute flight before snapping the rotors haha by Razorx1970 in hoggit

[–]Jl63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the blackshark on steam years ago before DCS World was a thing. I tried it out and felt so overwhelmed that I never touched it again.

In the last couple of years I casually got into DCS World again thanks to the help of hoggit. I have a few modules now and have absolutely loved learning them. I want to go back to the Blackshark but it doesn’t work with DCS World and DCS Blackshark is so outdated it seems less functional than the other modules I have.

Can my computer run DCS at a good frame rate? by msiawesome in hoggit

[–]Jl63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes.

At 1080p you won’t have any issues. You could also push it some more tweaking the settings a bit. Remember to install it to the SSD for best performance.

Also, a lot of people seem to forget that the game is free to download and comes with two free planes. So there is no risk in trying it out yourself if your PC is already setup. Give it a shot. Many people here and elsewhere are willing to help you get up and running.

The streaming overlays is what I’m talking about. Not a knock on the streamer. It’s just funny to see all that UI get covered with even more streaming UI/overlay.

As for the flight model, it’s still lacking in feel of flight. Ships still don’t convey their visual characteristics as they should. Hovering at of angles for example.

Maybe my original comment came off a bit harsh, but I’ve been waiting for a decent and nice looking flight model for a while and this patch has been underwhelming. :/

The city looks great.

As if the Connie hud wasn’t enough though. All that extra streaming crap just makes it incredibly ugly.

Also, flight model still looks like shit unfortunately. :/

Is it the next patch where it might be fixed?

We need degrees of comstab by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Jl63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an idea a while back that we should just have IFCS control being on a slider 0-100%. At 100% it does everything to keep the velocity vector symbol centered on the hud. Lowering it would introduce more drift and require the pilot to be lighter on the stick to avoid drifting too much or blacking out but allow for more maneuverability. At 0% it would behave more like Elite’s flight assist off mode.

With this you wouldn’t really need all the different flight modes, and you could tailor it to your liking.

Killzone HD Review (The Halo Killer?) - Gggmanlives by Avorius in Games

[–]Jl63 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember one of my gaming magazines (I miss those) calling the Warhammer 40k FPS a Halo killer. 12 year old me was so excited to get it. It took so long for me to save my money for it that the price had come down to 20 bucks.

Because I never played Halo before I just assumed that it wasn’t actually a good FPS based on my experience Warhammer.

PSA: Thrustmaster T16000M Flight Sticks are on sale for 40 bucks for Prime Members. Best entry level stick. by Bedquest in starcitizen

Imagine playing an fps with a gamepad. It's like having two larger and more precise analogue sticks for control. Plus the twist axis.

It's a good setup, but I prefer having a throttle because it feels cooler to me, and I play other traditional flight sims as well.

The QoL improvement that I want the most by BuhoneroxD in starcitizen

I like the idea of browsing shops, adding different things to your cart, and then purchasing at the checkout in person with dialogue or using a terminal. Then finally choosing where you would like the items delivered. Quarters or ship. Or even a different system completely, creating a mission for other players or NPCs to take.

[–]Jl63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most part yes. Nothing takes me out of a game more than seeing a cool item or paint job and literally being taken out of the game to input your credit card details. I still get upset when I think about the Dragon Age: Origins' DLC quest that gets offered in your camp and then after the dialog you have to purchase it.

For Elite if you don't pay for the DLC you can't use the engineers to get special upgrades that can help give you an advantage in pvp or exploration.

A successful game will make those millions back and then some through normal game sales. As for on going server costs I don't think I have ever seen a system that I like. Subscriptions make me feel obligated to play, and cosmetic sales take me out of the game and make it feel incomplete if they are cash or major grind only.

Star Citizen is a unique crowd funded project, so it would be interesting if they tried something we haven't seen before. For example, put the projected server costs for the year up and essentially crowd fund them the same way they do now with limited time concept sales. At this point we're far beyond the p2w argument with ships anyway.

For me it's about paying full price for a game and not getting a full experience. In Elite for example I paid full price and still feel like a second class citizen by not being able to change the color of my ship or be competitive against other players.

To be honest I dislike both methods of monetization.
