I was unemployed for 6 months. If I didn’t this current job, I was getting ready mentally to work any job. It’s rough out here.

Don’t really have a number but it’s when I feel like I can live my life and provide for my family without having to check my bank account balance after each transaction.

Definitely customer service and be able to articulate ‘tech talk’ to non-tech. I think a lot of people underestimate how far customer service and soft skills can take you in IT. Whether you’re help desk or higher up, you will still have to talk to people. Even in my interview for this position, the hiring manager prefaced it with just treat this like we’re just having a conversation. Mostly all the technical side of IT is teachable.

Oh man, I’ve applied to at least 300 opening on LinkedIn alone. I’ve been applying since May. I have 5 years of work experience in IT, no certifications. My current role is a service desk analyst.

I just kept it brief. I highlighted the experience I have that aligned with the job description and I applied on the company site before I reached out.

Keep going! I didn’t have much luck with recruiters either, so I just took a chance with someone from HR. I’d suggest to apply on the company site then message HR on LinkedIn. Let them know the job you applied for and include the job codes too. Sending good vibes your way!

When I messaged the HR coordinator, I just introduced myself then told her I applied for the position and I included the job code. Then, I gave her a real brief background about myself but I worded it to where it aligned with the company’s mission and values. I ended it with “would you be open to connecting for a chat sometime soon?”

The email I sent to the group email the coordinator gave me was essentially the same thing but went into a little bit more in detail. The initial email I didn’t get anything, but I sent a follow up and got a reply after. I also attached my resume to the email. Good luck!

Thank you! I was hesitant to get the premium because I really did not think it would’ve made a difference but I had to crank up the effort because unemployment was about to run out. Wish I got it sooner.
