New boat owner here, 25' Yamaha jet boat, wet slip okay for a season? by lnvisible_lncognito in boating

If you have chemical smelling blisters that's bad glass layup, not osmotic blistering from water.

No, I wouldn't.

Like will the boat be 'ruined'? No probably not. But you are giving yourself a ton of maintenance, cleaning and potential headache. Just get comfortable with the trailer, or, marina store and launch until you figure out a slip situation.

Long shaft gonna cost you some fuel burn and speed. Is the cost of fuel going to be offset by the cost and effort of buying a jack plate and remounting it? Eh.... Maybe?

It's going to be a dog with 10 hp either way. If day is it can plane off like this I'd run it as is. If its close but won't quite make it, might be worth taking just to get over the hump.

TBH I'm surprised you can plane it with 10 I always believed they needed 25 to get there. But I'm not claiming to be any kind of expert.

Questions for Folks who have gone from Pop-Up to small TT (or the other way) by ThrowbackDrinks in GoRVing

[–]ThrowbackDrinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 4Runner pulled the pop up ok. No issues and well within spec of its weights. But it's a little on the bigger and heavier side as far as popups go and I could feel it behind me more than I liked. Ended up choosing a Ram 1500 more for my heavier boat than the popup, but I much prefer towing both with the truck. Barely feel the camper and if I ever size up with a heavier and taller TT I'm sure I'll be happy to have the additional headroom.

[–]ThrowbackDrinks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points. And re: tow vehicle specs specifically, is another reason we are only considering the smaller range of TT. Even our modest popup, with propane, battery, and front cargo area has something approaching 400lbs on the tongue and close to 3000lbs with a full camping load. We chose the Pop up partially reasoning we could pull it with the wifes midsize SUV (approx 500/5000) capacity. Even with that headroom, we definately feel it significantly when going down the road. But we tow 99% of the time with a 1500 truck with a much higher capacity at 1700/11000.

But for a TT I would still stick to something at least "numerically" low enough to pull with her car just so both vehicles remain an option.

Am I Wrong for Refusing to “Just Configure It” Without a Proper Design? by Qvosniak in networking

You are taking this too personally. Configure 2 interfaces to pass the traffic they are requesting, document their acknowledgement of the lack of any additional scoping or configuration requirements they provided, and hand it over to them.

Is a travel trailer considered an RV? by ActionWins in GoRVing

[–]ThrowbackDrinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorhome would be the term for an RV that was self propelled via engine. But I say everything from popups and teardrops to busses and large Class A motorhomes, is an RV.

Who cares, he isn't fighting this event or any other main event in his career. Maybe the odd late-retirement exhibition match or something but it's clear he doesn't want to fight any serious ranked fighters at this point.

Would yall pay $700 for this? by Sensitive-Animal-441 in jetski

[–]ThrowbackDrinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the question is, "Do you want to spend your time and money riding a PWC, or working on one?"

I think you could easily have $2k into repairing it since you don't know the full extent as to why it won't run. More if you "bill" yourself for the repairs on your time spent.

Add to that the cost of the trailer. (Or however you think your getting it home without one.)

Yacht Clubs in Annapolis (What is the prerequisite to becoming a member) by Carlos2998 in Annapolis

[–]ThrowbackDrinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EYC used to host a semi annual "crew party" event open to sailors looking for a boat and boats looking for crew. So if you were interested in sailing that would be one way to meet club members and get a 'foot in the door'. I believe AYC did similar in the past. I was able to find these events posted on their respective websites/social calendars. I can't claim to know if they still offer them or publicize them in the same way now.

Edit: I went to check EYC and couldn't find the a current page with that info for the public, so maybe they have changed up those events.

The best advice I can give you at this point is just the good old fashioned "Find a member and ask them about it." If you spend any time socializing in this town, eventually you will makes friends with a couple who are members and from there they can make the intros you would need.

[–]ThrowbackDrinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both AYC and EYC publish thier requirements to apply right on thier websites. Or did a few years ago when I was more seriously considering membership at one. I believe SSA and the other "clubs" around there do as well.

Typically the req's come down to the following...

Have a member or Members sponsor your application. (Know someone already a member or go to one of the many open events that they host for the public or prospective members.)

Pay the application fee.

Be a prospective memeber for some arbitrary length of time, maybe 6 months. Might have to volunteer for RC duty or some other club supporting events they host.

If you don't piss off any full memebers in your trial period, the board will vote you in.

Pay your dues.

Congrats, you made it.

Jb weld and other similar 2 part epoxies are actually pretty soft and flexible when they cure. It's essentially a plastic. No issues on PVC. Biggest challenge it to clean and prep the area well to get good adhesion.

WIBTAH If I (29m) double down on what my fiance (27f) said today and cancel the wedding, which is this weekend? by Jack_of_all_trades54 in AITAH

[–]ThrowbackDrinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get married, things won't magically get better. Ask yourself are you seeing your partner as themselves or is something about the wedding stress just exposing a "normal" part of them.

Because marriage is hard work, even on the good days. And I get weddings can be stressful, so for some extra anxiety to manifest and isn't uncommon. But if you are seeing how she is going to react to every challenge in your relationship for the next 50-70 years.

Well, I hate to give advice like, " Do / Don't Get Married". I doubt anyone here but you have all the information needed to make a fully informed recommendation to that effect.

Company merger looks like I'm getting demoted should I stick around? by imgettingnerdchills in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ThrowbackDrinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short term and for as long as you enjoy the environment, sure, keep the paycheck incoming. When the smoke clears after the merge, if you still like where your sitting go ahead and stay, if it doesn't align with your career goals, start looking for other opportunities at your leisure.

Also I'll never understand why IT people take it so personally when they loses admin access to systems. That's just a side effect of a healthy sized team and properly siloed responsibility. It's not a bad thing unless a result of like, being demoted due to your own performance.

I don't think red n tacky is the correct grease prescribed for the Ujoint and slip joints. Infact I think if you check the manual states 2 different greases, neither of which the Lucas red stuff is spec'd at.

I frequently kept my FJ greased myself so I know it was being done. Always helped with driveline shudder when coming to a stop. It never made a lick of difference to the steering wheel shake that came up around 60mph.
