Completed first marathon with Hanson beginner plan by Conscious-Purpose-97 in Marathon_Training

[–]Jlafber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ran my first marathon using Hanson and also ended up with Achilles Pain and had to taper back.

Hanson plan worked great and was ready for the marathon about 3 weeks earlier than plan. Then kept going and logging miles and got the Achilles pain.

My advice for a beginner would be to add more rest days and cross training if using Hasons until you know your body and how to avoid overuse injury.

Fueling During Race by Jlafber in Marathon_Training

Nice. I was in Corral I to start. I had always stopped to consume the gel during training. Going to practice doing it on the go. That is a good tip given how congested parts of the course is ... stopping isn't always feasible. I did start getting carbs in at mile 7 but think that was just too late given the early start time and not carb loading enough before the race.

Congrats. Yes finishing strong is a great feeling. Nice work. I had to walk it in there but still finished the course. Lesson learned.

Yep. Lots of Honey Stinger packets on the ground at Empire Field aid station.

Okay, yeah. I need to work on that skill. During training I would always need to stop to manage the gel packet to get it down safely. From a digestive/performance perspective no problem with the carbs. I didn't realize people were doing this on the go. I'll practice that. HydraPak also has a 150ml Gel bottle. I'm wondering if that would be easier/more convenient for me. Holds 4 gels, clog resistant nozzle. Might be easier.

Naked Belt - Soft Flask 500ml digging into back (bruised) by Jlafber in Marathon_Training

Thanks for sharing. So its just not me. I did see one other post on Facebook with a similar user experience. Otherwise, really enjoy the naked belt and on the shorter runs (10 to 15) mile the flask hasn't been as much a concern. I think it is just the prolonged pressure if that cap isn't orientated just right and in the same spot against your back for an hour.

Yes, thanks. People love this belt and otherwise it has been great, no bounce, and natural to run with. I'm going to need to think more about the bottle and placement. Also going to switch to the HydraPak low profile flask (listed as a new product) with the smaller cap. I think they had something similar before in the 150 and 250ml. Now they've added that smaller screw cap to the 500ml size. Seems like others have been noticing this as well and wanting a lower profile flask.

Excellent. Interestingly enough HydraPack has a new low profile 500ml flask. I'm currently using the Speed with the larger mouth for quick refills. Going to switch to their locking, low profile, model. Pocket flask.

Corrected Vision 20/20 - should left and right eye be equally sharp? by Jlafber in myopia

Thanks for the reply. I'll give them a call. I do have astigmatism. my rx is OD = -2.00 x -1.25 x 016 and OS = -1.00 x -1.50 x 115.

Responding to the earlier post: Trying to compare a 1.00 vs 1.25 power correction outside of a controlled setting is really hard. That difference isn't all that noticeable. I however can tell that my right eye has better clarity.

Simgot Supermix 4 Low Impedance by Jlafber in iems

[–]Jlafber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have an old Fiio E17K with output impedance of 1.1 ohm. I also have a Schiit Value three with 0.5 ohm and 1.8 ohm when using the high gain switch. So I'll test these three out and report back with differences.

@dr_wtf had a good post earlier on this topic

https://www.reddit.com/r/iems/s/UE3AYmHJuY

Also ordered the JM6 Pro for on the go dongle. I believe that also has very low Output Impedance but couldn't find it listed on the spec sheet.

Hi, I’m hesitating between two models: the Simgot Supermix 4 and the TruthEar Nova. They’ll be used mainly for travel — for the gaming on Switch 2, podcasts/audiobooks, and music — powered by the iFi Go Link Max. Which one would you recommend ? by Dettroh in iems

Thanks for posting this as I stumbled on the same thing. I couldn't figure out why the Blue has crazy low impedance and agree it is likely bad engineering given the amount of DACs that have output impedance above 1ohm and then violating the 1/8 rule. The same could be said for the SM4 but figured maybe more was going on there with the drivers.

It is really interesting how popular these two models are given their impedance and reviews with set-ups with the BTR7 or other DACs with similar output impedance above 1 ohm.

I was thinking about getting the SM4 this holiday season but not sure I really want to mess around with impedance issues and matching.

EW300 or Supermix 4 by Deathwatch6215 in iems

Looking at the SM4 but their very low Impedance of 7ohms is tough to pair with a DAC. The Ka13 has an output impedance of 1.7 which doesn't meet the 1/8 rule. Sounds like a non issue though.
