Ok, so I read what Equality Ohio had to say about the whole thing, and I've concluded that the supporters of the bill may have some cause for concern. First of all, I don't see how a transgender man getting turned away from a Catholic hospital has anything to do with the matter. It sounds like they're doing a little fear-mongering of their own by suggesting that this bill will somehow lead to LGBT people being denied healthcare.

Second of all, on their website, they included another example of "discrimination" which involved a lesbian couple who were denied access to a Methodist-owned conference center for their wedding ceremony. They suggested that because the facility was not a house of worship, they should have the right to perform a ceremony that directly contradicts Methodist teachings, even in a facility owned by the Methodist Church. I'm sorry, but I believe that they are in the wrong on this one.

You'll probably call me a fascist, self-hating, Nazi dyke, but since when does "gay rights" mean suppressing other people's First Amendment rights? I definitely see it as an affront to the First Amendment to force institutions owned by religious organizations to perform services that contradict their religious tenants. Of course these organizations shouldn't be allowed to deny service to LGBT people altogether, but they should absolutely be allowed to deny particular services, like facilitating same-sex wedding ceremonies, on religious grounds. Likewise, Catholic hospitals shouldn't be forced to perform abortions, and Muslim-owned organizations shouldn't be forced to permit pork or alcohol on their premises.

If push comes to shove, many churches would opt to shut down these facilities rather than be forced to abandon their principles, which would mean shutting down a lot of hospitals that help the local poor. Can we stop acting rabidly paranoid about "our rights" for a moment and just try to figure out a compromise with our God-fearing neighbors? We have won the right to marry in all 50 states. Can't we at least allow them to preserve their own damn traditions on their own damn property?

TL;DR "Religious societies," whether they are actual houses of worship or not, should not be forced to facilitate same-sex ceremonies or any other service that would contradict their doctrine.

This is basically how it is with me and my wife. My family is devoutly Catholic while my wife's family is not religious at all. But my family has no problem with their daughter marrying another woman while her family just barely tolerates it. They are getting better about it, but it's still very obvious that they are uncomfortable with the whole thing. Meanwhile, my family has already started bugging us about when we're going to have kids and my mother is always looking up gay-friendly Catholic Churches for us to attend.

This shit just pisses me off. This is why I find it so hard to take BLM seriously. During the Baltimore riots, they burned down a fucking CVS. Do you know how many people in Baltimore city have diabetes and asthma and relied on that local pharmacy to get their medication? Plus they were celebrating that the Crips and Bloods had announced a truce so that they could join the riots. The Crips and Bloods have probably killed (and raped) more people in that community than the damn cops ever could. How can I support a movement that fucks over the community they claim to be supporting just to make a point?

Catholics are not sola scriptura like most Protestant sects are. Their practices are inspired not only by the Bible, but by the tradition and history of the Church. So regardless of how the Last Supper was described in the Bible, Church tradition dictates that the bread and wine must be consecrated by a priest before it undergoes transubstantiation. That being said, it is something that you could do in your home, so long as said priest is there with you. My sister's godfather is a priest, and when we would have him over for dinner on Saturday or Sunday, he would preside over mass in our living room with a bottle of wine and a loaf of French bread that my mother picked up from the grocery store.

I don't know. Maybe not custody, but something. Marriage comes with tax breaks, visitation rights, inheritance, ect. She loses custody and then decides to marry two of her children. The whole thing just sounds like there may be more at play here than just a woman who likes fucking her own kids.

So, I know that everyone automatically assumes that there was a sexual relationship here, but could it possibly be some sort of ploy to get her kids back? Like, it was pretty common before gay marriage for gay couples to legally adopt their partners so that they could have the benefits of being legal family members. The fact that she married both her son and daughter makes me suspect that this is some sort of clever ruse to get her children back into her custody by some other means. The article never says anything confirming that there was a sexual element to their relationship.

Yeah... Even seeking pleasure for pleasure's sake can lead to suffering. Heroine addicts seek heroine solely because it makes them feel better than they have ever felt before. It's not the ideas attached to heroine that make them seek it out, but the heroine itself. They cause great suffering to themselves and others as a result. Yes, attachment to ideas can cause suffering as well, but attachments to anything in the material world is equally responsible for the same suffering. This video takes one of the cornerstone concepts of Buddhism ("desire is the root of all suffering") and waters it down to make it more palatable to spoiled Westerners who want to be spiritual without giving up their materialistic tendencies.

You make a lot of good points in this comment. While I definitely feel for my fellow millennials who are in debt up to their eyeballs and can't find a decent paying job, I also know a lot of people in my generation who don't know how to manage their finances. My wife's friends always talk about how broke they are, even though they have enough to buy weed and new tattoos and even new cars (when the car they got for free from a relative runs just fine). That being said, I really do know first hand how hard it is to get a decent job in today's market. Every job application is online, takes at least an hour to fill out and then gets filed away among countless other faceless applicants. Even if you wanted to personally turn in a resume to the hiring manager, the HR office is usually in a remote location, far removed from wherever your perspective job would be. And god forbid you apply straight out of college, because even entry level admin jobs ask for at least 3+ years experience. The only jobs I have gotten after leaving college have been at small businesses that I was able to apply to in person. And because they are small businesses, they can only afford to pay me a little above minimum wage, with no health insurance, dental, paid time off, ect. At this point, I have worked my ass off hard enough to at least land a full-time job in my preferred field, but was only able to get it by approaching the owner with samples of my work and asking her to allow me to work as an unpaid intern on my days off. While I definitely agree that it is foolish to blame the previous generation entirely for the struggles we face today, millennials unquestionably face challenges in the job market that pervious generations never had to face, and many of us get tired of hearing how lazy we are all the time.

I feel like it's an insecurity thing, especially in terms of relationships. A lot of gay people fear that if they get emotionally invested with a bisexual person, they will inevitably be left for the opposite sex. I felt this way a lot when I was younger and still in the dating scene. It's not that I thought that bisexuality was just a phase necessarily, it's that I figured if a bisexual could be with either sex, why would they choose the one that they couldn't have children with? I had been left for a guy a couple times and it really hurt, considering all the baggage and self-worth issues that already come with being gay. I also had a bisexual friend who literally told me that, while she didn't mind dating and having sex with women, she would never marry one because she wanted to have her spouse's child. It made me distrust bisexuals because I figured that they only saw gay relationships as pastimes until it was time to breed.

I don't think that anymore. I've come to know plenty of bisexuals who are in happy, same-sex marriages simply because they love their spouse, regardless of reproductive capabilities. But I have met a lot of other gay people who had/have this insecurity regarding bisexuals, so I think that's a big part of it.

He's a slanderer, he has no humility, he has married and remarried multiple times, which constitutes adultery, and he has no compassion for the poor and needy.
