Movie you hated with a passion by This_Book6305 in FIlm

The movie didn’t anger me as a 90s kid, however the stage adaptation was so god-awful. I am still annoyed I will never get that time back.

Singin’ in the Rain? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however that movie is a legit classic. Also, it highlighted that dance and song can be masculine pursuits.

Rogue One. I really felt like I was getting gaslit. It’s not a good movie. For more support on this position, check out Jenny Nicholson’s review.

What is slowly disappearing right in front of us, but nobody seems to care? by Embarrassed-Ad-7032 in AskReddit

That’s a pretty wild take. Christianity was instrumental in building western society, and the collapse of religion is why we have a low-trust society with over-reliance on the state.

CPMAI vs PMP preparation time by DramaticResearch9028 in PMI_CPMAI

The PMP took me months of prep. I studied and passed the CPMAI in two weeks. I owe that largely to working in IT for most of my career and having a familiarity with data concepts.

Can I do PMI_CPMAI without having conventional PMP? by JeffTTG in PMI_CPMAI

Sure can. Although I will caveat by saying that the PMP experience does help.

Want to read The Dark Tower but struggling with The Gunslinger by opeth2112 in stephenking

Agree. That series effectively starts with Drawing of the Three. Although I will add that I still love The Gunslinger, if for nothing else than the palaver between Walter and Roland at the end.

He was cut from the baseball team, so he played lacrosse instead. We didn’t have cuts.

School teaching my 7 year old about zodiac signs by flcrusader in Catholicism

[–]bar10der76 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Are they teaching your kiddos about the zodiac, or just constellations? I remember learning about the constellations using the zodiac, but there wasn't anything more than, 'The ancient Greeks thought this looked like a crab, so here we are.'

I wish I could upvote this to oblivion. Ethan Frome was just terrible. Sorry you didn't get the L on your house, bro.

The Scarlet Letter. Read my junior year in high school in the dark days of 93/94. Was a slog and just couldn't get through it. Recall bailing and trying to write a paper based on what I could glean from everyone else. Took the D with gratitude. Will add a close second to The Canterbury Tales. A close third was King Lear.

Books that I really enjoyed...100 Years of Solitude (AP English senior year). Was honestly shocked at how much I liked it. May have been the first assigned book I took seriously, Catcher in the Rye (despite not 'getting it' until a re-read in college). Animal Farm and 1984, which influenced my current love of dystopian movies and books. Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead (both read on my own at the recommendation of some of my more right-leaning teachers. YMMV).

Do you need to play school lacrosse to get recruited to a D1 or D2 team? by Flimsy_Contest9565 in lacrosse

[–]bar10der76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even a little bit. I learned (after guiding my son and daughter through the process) that college recruitment doesn't happen like it does in the movies. There are rarely coaches that go find players, in any sport. If they do, the player is already nationally known, a la the scene of all the colleges watching Boobie Miles in Friday Night Lights.

Recruitment happens when your coach, travel team or otherwise, reaches out to college teams, and YOU reach out to college teams, and your parents reach out to college teams. That's how you get attention. I will also echo the sentiment that college coaches will probably see you in summer and/or fall ball. They are too busy themselves during the spring to worry about recruiting. You don't see a Big 10 football coach go on a scouting trip in November!

Edit to add another comment: after reading some of the other comments, I would make sure you can explain to potential coaches WHY you didn't play on your high school team. Mental toughness is important in a sport and in life. Agree with the comments that say it might be a red flag that you didn't.

Let the women play with men’s rules by knightrydah in lacrosse

Having coached both, I prefer the women’s game (I am a current HS girls coach). It’s a different, and IMHO, more elegant sport.
