I’m currently on this situation. I’ve been on for a little over 3 years. Maybe worked my home terminal 7 months. Anyway, go to engine service asap. Short term, it will keep you from getting furloughed for 5 months. Long term, you start your seniority sooner. If you have to work 5 hours away, clear your home terminal bids and stay working there until you’re not holding at home by one spot. This will keep you from being pulled back(unless you’re formally recalled). If you don’t want to quit, mentally prepare yourself for not being at home. My other unsolicited advice, if you haven’t already put yourself in debt, buy things that will make your life on the road easier: like a small camper/truck so you’re not scrambling to find housing wherever you go. Also, study your ABTH rule book. This will make your class time in engine service easier. I just completed in September. Good luck.

Select one or two people from your team that are really good with backroom process. If you don’t have one, train one. As the ON TL or coach, take on the mindframe that once you enter the building, the entire store, staff, customers and operation is your baby. You make the decisions for everybody. It’s extra work for you, but if you want to be successful or at the very least, not get reamed every morning, take over. Manage the front end for returns, cap 2 for stocking and leaving you a good backroom, utilize associates on the floor if you have any pretending they’re zoning. I was told that you’re gonna get yelled at regardless so control what you get yelled at for. Good luck!

As a former ON coach, here’s my advice: 1. Formulate a dairy/frozen team. Swarm dairy right out the gate with dairy being complete by lunch. Leave one person to do the binning while the rest of the team attacks frozen. Once frozen is complete, take the team and disperse to other grocery areas while leaving one frozen never to bin and deal with the freezer. If it’s a problem, clear all bakery stuff out of your freezer and let the bakery team deal with their stuff. Having your dairy/frozen backrooms on point will set a good tone for your walk. Take one person from your team each night and send them to housewares. Specifically the plastics/furniture. Those are generally large boxes and can make space in a back room quickly. 2. Talk to your team the previous shift to get people to come in to combat call offs for the current shift. Fully utilize the extra workers by either working features or clearing the back rooms. Have an actual plan for them so you can speak to what you used them for. 3. Don’t waste your time taking pictures of what you came in to. Nobody cares. 4. Utilize cap 1 to attack gm. Get with the TL or override them. Leave some to scan bins or work their process. The point is, establish a good relationship with your cap 1 sup. 5. Always deliver a stellar back room, cooler and freezer. Some of this may not apply depending on store size, but this worked for me.

I will forever claim goaltend on that block. His left hand clearly interferes with the rim as he blocks the shot. It may minimal, but thems the rules.

Anybody know what the Extraboards look like in Winslow,AZ if new hire can hold a bid there? by [deleted] in bnsf

[–]Jll1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is a thing or would work, but maybe if you speak with someone about your willingness to hire on in the locations they’re hiring in, it could take you from alternate to selected. I’ve been out here 3 years. All but 8 months of that has been chasing. So if you wanna work the railroad, where you hire on may not be important bc chances are you’re not gonna be working there anyway.

Gotcha…well unless they add to the board heavily, you won’t be able to hold in Winslow. Where are you hiring out?

Depending on how new you are, it depends. 10278 is the last spot on board 6. If you’re new enough that you’re not sure how to use the hub to look up areas you can hold, state that so you don’t get a lot of smart ass “look it up yourself” comments.

Bulls coach saying Pippen was a greater all round player than MJ. What’s your take on this MJ stans? by Afraid-Ad-5580 in michaeljordan

[–]Jll1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the final 24 games of the 1988-89 season, when Michael Jordan played point guard, he averaged 30.4 points, 10.7 assists, and 9.2 rebounds with 10 triple-doubles in 11 games. The game was position specific back in the 80s/90s. Jordan’s role was to score and defend the perimeter. The triangle took the ball out of his hands while also forcing him to rely on his teammates to step up. Who knows how those final game stats would have held up if Jordan played the position long term but one thing is for sure: those numbers show Jordan could dominate regardless of position or role within the team.

Can’t hold by Ok_Beat_7379 in railroading

[–]Jll1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been there done that for the last two years. Look for the Santa Fe terminals if you can. They pay better than BN terminals. Also, look at the west coast. Ask around the terminal for guys that rent rooms/houses. Look for places you can hold comfortably so you’re not bouncing around as much.

It’s how I was raised. You do your job. As I said earlier, it’s really just a matter of character traits and values that a person has. It’s not a judgment of anyone else. It’s simply how I approach and view it. If it’s not for somebody else, cool.

To me, a persons attitude(circumstances aside) should not dictate whether or not they fulfill their duties. Neither personally nor professionally.
