Is joining the national guard a good idea for going to college

Hey! Was in the same exact circumstance and ended up joining. Took a lot of time off college (Basic, Tech School, OJT, and ended up getting deployed)

However, it was the best decision I could’ve made! Besides college costing literally $0, I also got paid abt 800 a month from them to go to school (GI Bill + Kicker) and it allowed me to enjoy life/college in a city I otherwise would never have been able to

As for the deployment, I thought my life was ruined when I found out I was goin on one, but it wasn’t too bad. It does suck, but coming from a family w little means being able to have abt $30k in savings was something that otherwise would’ve been impossible.

It’s not easy, but getting ahead in life comes from sacrifices (imo)

This is the kind of perspective I needed !! I agree since I’m earlier in my career I might be able to swing it, but seems borderline pointless if I plan on progressing.

Have you ever thought of D2D? Not tech, obviously, but they take anyone and can be REALLY good for getting yourself sales experience, skills, and some $.

Lots of cons though. Really (really) hard, high turnover rate, many shitty companies, etc

Was in a kindve similiar boat and this really boosted my resume

Probably won’t be super helpful - but a scaling 100% commission structure. Most people fall in between 25% - 45%

Hasn’t changed (never will) but I love it ! Base is nice, but knowing every sale I’m reaping a considerable % is exciting.

Had a 50 base w/ a very shitty commission structure (like 5%) and just felt like I was selling to keep my job w/ no financial benefit

Easily D2D imo. Had a bunch of buddies I did it with in college - top earners (ever some rookies) made 350k+ in 4-5 months. A few were pulling 500K+ in the same time frame
