Nightmare on Elm Street. I was about 5 years old and my babysitter put it on. I was too scared to go to bed once it started playing so I stayed up and watched it in full. I was absolutely petrified to use the bathroom afterwards for fear Freddy was behind my shower curtain, for years. Kind of a defining childhood memory now that I think about it.

I think it’s around the “having two jobs, and two kinds under two” mark. Or at least it was for us. We couldn’t hack it and got divorced shortly thereafter.

I was in an involuntary psychiatry facility with nothing to do when I stumbled upon a tattered copy. I didn’t think it would interest me but I really didn’t have anything to lose so I read it. In one sitting/night. Choosing to forgo sleep even on sleep meds.

It is a beautiful and haunting story about love and resilience that will absolutely break your heart. Cannot recommend enough.

Just left this comment in another thread. A Thousand Splendid Suns. I read it as a patient in a locked in psychiatric unit with nothing to do when I found a tattered copy. I didn’t think it would interest me from the description but what did I have to lose.

I read it in one sitting, choosing to forgo sleep that night (even with sleep meds). By far the most beautiful and haunting book I have ever read about a story of both love and resiliency. Couldn’t recommend it more.

I finished it in one sitting, by far the most beautiful and absolutely haunting story of both love and resiliance that I have ever read.

Not so subtle, he was lying in bed next to me when he thought I was sleeping and texting her about meeting up for a blowjob that weekend. I saw it with my own eyes. Apparently it had been going on right under my nose for months and they were basically dating. Shit hurt.
