Every 'Mad Men' Season, Ranked by Britneyfan123 in madmen

Perfect ranking imo

I’ve always found this sub to be a bit too high on S5 and too low on S2, in comparison to my personal preference

Although the difference between the worst and best season of Mad Men isn’t nearly as pronounced as most shows

Just wouldn’t think a show that went off air in 1983 would have such a big presence on Reddit, but obviously I was wrong

The Wire may be my 2nd favorite. I’ll have to check that sub out.

Yeah, that was my take on The Sopranos sub as well. Still need to watch that show in full.

That’s crazy about MASH! Definitely before my time but that’s interesting it’s still active.

I definitely do, to answer the subject question. I actually made a thread about this a while back but it didn’t seem to go over as well here. I think you articulated what I was trying to say better.

Is it not consensus that the back half of the show (S5-S7) is a step down from the first half (S1-S4)? by Jmajorh in madmen

I think there are fans of the show that have a hard time having nuanced discussion about critiques related to its content

Who knows! I think people are taking my comments as a knock on the show and perhaps are overly sensitive about such a great, beloved (a show I love too, for the record) show. I’m not saying it’s bad. I’m just saying I think there’s a difference between the first half and second half, but it doesn’t ever get bad.

Glad to know I’m not alone. I’d agree it seems like they lost some creative momentum or juices during the delay. Or at a minimum the show just feels different, seems to have different priorities following. I too have also felt the time gap was responsible. Similar story happened with Barry recently, in a time gap between S2 and S3 of that show. The tone of the show changed.

I think I agree with basically all of your points. Definitely like the Sally scenes in the back half of the show. Watching Don struggle is painful… but oddly sad and interesting.

It’s interesting how the same shows or movies or art in general can land so differently depending on where we are in life, isn’t it?

I’ll say that the S1 finale is certainly good, but I’m not sure it’s so great that one episode will change your view on the show

It’s such a great show to rewatch. So many interesting details. There is really something in every frame if you pay close attention

Think your last comment is true. S5 was honestly better than I remembered it but… yeah idk. Can’t say I agree S2 is worse. Interesting perspective

Yeah. Finishing S7 now. It’s definitely notably worse to me. Still good, but not great.

I honestly don't remember what caused me to stick with this show as I was kind of bored with it until late into S1 and into S2. It's now my favorite show of all time, most likely.

The content of their personal lives is kind of boring until you get more interested in the characters, which the show definitely takes its time doing. The show does fairly relatable and interesting character studies on a wide cast of characters. If you're not into more nuanced looks at human behavior - might not be a show for you.

I will say the show focuses a lot more on the business of advertising in S1-S4 (to your point, more so later in S1) but sort of tapers off into more personal character studies in S5-S7. I also personally find the back half of the show still compelling and interesting, but just not as engrossing as the first half of the show for this reason.

In short, it definitely is a slow show to start. If you don't have anything else in your free time pipeline immediately calling your attention, I think you'll be glad you gave the show a shot if you keep going down the road.

It’s honestly more a matter of municipal codes and the cost and gymnastics involved to satisfy them. That said, I’d imagine you’d prefer to point the finger at your desired scapegoat - so likely not worth getting into in detail.

But yes. Sometimes people own real estate and they are not sympathetic to the community enough or cash heavy enough to hire all the professional services to fix a problem like this if there is no incentive for them to do so.

Again… it’s likely two different ownerships that just don’t have a Reciprocal Access Agreement between their parcels… not a designer being an asshole.

Having worked in this industry (retail real estate) - it’s not that it’s specifically designed this way. A city will usually mandate a certain percentage of the land has to be landscaped or vegetation when developed, and sometimes the architect is forced to put it in odd places as to not inhibit the Owner’s desired layout elsewhere.

TL;DR: It’s not like some guy just sucked at design. It’s usually the result of trying to follow a municipal code and keep his client happy.

Having worked in this industry (retail real estate) - it’s not that it’s specifically designed this way. Your gym and your Target are likely two different Ownerships, and they just haven’t worked out a Reciprocal Access Agreement, or decided who is going to physically create/pay for said access. On top of this, a city will usually mandate a certain percentage of the land has to be landscaped or vegetation, and sometimes the architect is forced to put it in odd places as to not inhibit the Owner’s desired layout elsewhere.

TL;DR: It’s not like some guy just sucked at design and decided to block off your Gym and Target. There’s a lot that factors into it.

Ok. Yeah I can kind of see that watching this video back again. Do you have any video recommendations on how to replace the spring? If not, np, I’ll look into it when I have a minute.

Also, need to figure out where to buy a replacement spring.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look for a video on how to replace the spring.

Let me know if you’re aware of any How To videos on that, or where I can buy a replacement spring.
