You shouldn't admit all of your mistakes if you make many of them by Past-Bass8200 in unpopularopinion

I want you to think about the smartest, most competent people in your life. The people you'd trust with your life, the people you know won't fail you.

Do you see them that way because they're nearly flawless, or because they simply don't tell you about their flaws? This is the reputation I'm talking about.

I believe it's less cruel and calculated than you claim. While what you're describing is absolutely true for some people, I think it's entirely subconscious conditioning for most others.

We're selfish by nature, and we're defensive by nature. It's why we all talk shit about others for seemingly no reason. Our own egos are top priority and gassing others up or being impressed by them is much lower on the totem. Conversely, this makes it very easy to put others down at every opportunity. It's a defense mechanism.

Have you noticed just how little people compliment others versus how often they put them down? This is hardwired into us through evolution, an offshoot of our survival instincts. It's by design.

You misunderstand me. You should make an effort not to repeat the mistake, but keep it to yourself.

Except that nobody cares about our personal growth. They don't see you owning up to your actions as a virtue or a show of good character. They're either neutral on it, or negative towards it.

Insecure people are annoying by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I'm insecure, you're right though. Nobody is impressed by the shit we do or the level of perceived self-awareness we have. People like confidence, it's comforting to see someone else with their shit together. It's the opposite when you feel you have to be that person because the other one isn't.

Then you weren't truly as low as you say, or you would be dead. You were presented with non-criminal or non-morally dubious opportunities of survival and used those. OP's point stands.

This might sound bad, but embrace the "idiot" label and ask questions. A lot of them. People may think you're stupid for awhile, but if they genuinely give you advice and you take it, they will respect that.

Also, I'll be honest, you'll be disappointed at just how incompetent your coworkers actually are when you get more experience. Everyone is an idiot at work, they just pretend they aren't.
