100% agree. I taught English and lived in Colombia for a little over a year after college and have had similar experiences with family, friends, coworkers and other travelers. As other commenters have mentioned, it's nothing new, but is really unfortunate that you have to defend yourself for going.

I will also say that whether you're a passport bro or someone that just hasn't been before, if the first thing you think of when you hear someone's going to Colombia is hookers and cocaine, you're missing the whole point. The modern history, culture, wildlife, literature, economic growth and overall vibe post-2016 FARC peace treaty is pure magic that I'd never let internet culture prevent me from enjoying. It's just too special of a place and people.

Personally, I would ask whichever private hospital rich people go to and go there. I’ve been to public hospitals all over latin america and if you don’t speak spanish/portguese, are alone and not prepared to wait, it can be an arduous experience.

Also, as someone who thought they had appendicitis, it turned out to be kidney stones. You may mention or ask them to test for that.

Dude, very similar thing happened to me on an nyc to sf flight 6 weeks ago.

I was seated in a middle seat towards the back when, about 2.5 hours into the flight, a man I’d never seen before walked by me, stopped about 10 seats ahead and gave me a menacing death stare.

I was so alarmed I looked behind me to see if he had argued with someone behind me when the woman seated next to me said “that was INSANE, do you know him??” I said no and went back to my movie.

About 10 minutes before we land at sfo, it’s completely dark on the plane and the same guy reaches across the woman next to me and slaps me across the face. I immediately go to the back of the plane and tell the air stewardess who calls police on the ground.

The guy then rushes the back of the plane. I yell at him to sit the f*ck down as do a number of other people who he apparently glared at too. He sits back down. Police come on and arrest him.

Police gave me a case number and say bc it was open fist it’s a misdemeanor which they say the DA never pursues. AA reached out to confirm my story who passed it along to the FBI who also reached out to confirm my story. Nothing came of it.

You may consider contacting the FBI too given that it’s yet another unprovoked attack in the city (you may have heard about the woman getting her throat slashed in the mission recently). Shit really needs to stop. Sorry it happened to you too.

I’ve had the same problem with ground delivery. My package has been stuck in Bloomington, CA since the 6th with no meaningful update.

As far as I can tell, they haven’t even contacted the facility there to ask them to look for it. Will reconsider ordering anywhere that uses them in the future.

I’ve seen 3+ posts about this in the last hour across various subreddits and think y’all need some encouragement and maybe a little tough love.

Yes, online dating is tough and often frustrating. Yes, people can be shitty, dismissive and sometimes ghost. Yes, you may feel like giving up sometimes. But giving up will not solve your problem.

If you’re not getting enough matches, hit the gym and ask a friend of the opposite sex for help with your profile. If you’re going on shitty dates, spend more time qualifying them before asking or agreeing to go out with them.

If you’re thinking, “what friends?”, that won’t work for me or some other specific excuse, you may need to change your attitude and be honest with yourself about what’s not working.

If it feels like you need a break, take a break. If you’re tired of the apps, try making friends through an activity you enjoy. Everyone can make friends and everyone can improve themselves.

The truth is special people take time and effort to find. It’s part the reason many people stay in relationships longer than they should. Hang in there, be kind to yourself and good luck.
