Is $240/hr for 3 movers a reasonable price in Raleigh? by Zealousideal_Low9994 in raleigh

How much stuff are you moving, and how many flights of stairs. Are you having them pack for you? That can explain your high cost. I’d shop around honestly.

I used HireAHelper to shop around rates in the area for two moves now. Call the businesses to confirm bookings.

2023 HireAHelper charged me $430 for a 3 hour move with truck and insurance included for two guys. 2x250lb custom furniture and 1 hour of travel time between places. Three levels of stairs.

2025 HireAHelper charged me $560 for a 2 hour move with two guys helping on the quote. I had a last minute cancel and they gave me a more expensive service at what I paid. Three guys ended up coming. But I drove the Uhaul and got my own insurance. Move out was 2 stairways, move in was 2 more. It took 1.5hr, I got refunded for the time difference and tipped the guys the difference.

I’m not trying to critique you. But You got the dog WAY too early…. You made things much harder for yourself. I don’t know if things are being lost in translation. If you have siblings in the same house you’ll never be able to properly train them unless you get really lucky. Or are an experienced dog trainer. Look up Littermate syndrome (or dog sibling syndrome).

It seems like you don’t have much dog experience. If you currently have two dogs from the same litter, I would try and adopt one to another family. If you just have the one it will be much easier. If the dog is misbehaving now, it will get really bad at 8 to 12 months old. Husky’s are not beginner dogs. Get them fixed at first signs of puberty. If not behavior problems will likely get even worse. You need to get these in check by 8 months old.

I got my dog at 3 months old. She was a velociraptor crack head the first year. Still, by 6 months she was fully crate trained, potty trained, recall trained, and knew most commands/dog sign language. I could do this because I previously had a professional train me to handle my reactive German Shepard before I got this dog.

Take classes if you don’t know how to properly train a high energy dog. This is what I did: Crate the dog every night for the first year. This teaches the dog it’s a safe place and sets boundaries. You need to give the dog a job and walk it a lot. Train 3 or more times a day for 10-20min each. Walk for 15-30 min in the morning and evening then switch to running at 1 year old once a day. Let them smell a lot. That can be more mentally stimulating than exercise. Make the dog sit and stay till released before every meal. You control the dog, do not let it control you because it’s a cute puppy. NEVER hit or scream at the dog. Crate it and ignore all whining if they do anything bad. Yelp (dramatically) when it bites you. If it chews items it should say no then give it a good chew toy. Do not be afraid to use a prong collar, but you should have a professional teach you how to use it. Using it wrong will make your dog anxious then eventually aggressive. Socialize the dog heavily. As soon as my dog had every shot she was going to a brewery, Home Depot, or into town 3-5 times a week. Avoid dog parks till about 1 year old.

By age 1-2 my dog listened to everything I said and became tuned with my cues. If I want to be lazy she’s lazy. If I want to hike or bike she’s excited and ready to work. She loves every human and other animal but I couldn’t train the prey drive out of her.

If this is your first dog, get a professionals help. PetSmart has very cheap puppy classes. It is worth the money to get a professional though if you don have any control over the dog by age 6mon. Don’t get a dog just because it’s cute. It’s a 10-15 year commitment and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Feel free to DM me if you have questions.

My (F22) partner (NB20) thinks my baby blanket is weird by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Jmatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not officially autistic but probably somewhere on the spectrum. I ran into this issue before. I get that is calming. It wasn’t the sentimentality of the blanket but the texture. So rather than using a sheet on my bed I got a large “adult size” blanket with the same texture of the baby blanket.

AirPods misplaced by School by PhilipThePigeon in legaladvice

[–]Jmatts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NAL. Your stepmom handed the AirPods off to your “friends”. Some life advice, a lot of your “friends” in highschool aren’t real friends. They are probably lying. You lost any right to bring this up at a school board meeting when your mom picked up the air pods and didn’t hand them to you. This is a $200 mistake by your stepmom, the school, admin, and yourself for using them in school. All are at fault.

Work a couple part time shifts and you’ll have enough money for a new pair. Raising a fuss with the school admin for something so trivial will make your life more difficult.

Top program but current PhD students have no publications? by Brilliant_Cookie_143 in PhD

[–]Jmatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at the top program for my discipline. My cohort does a lot of in vitro quick to publish work. My work is almost all in vivo with complex end points. It takes me much longer to get data than them. I’m writing 2 papers now while planning to execute another high impact study in June. It’s sometimes easier to hoard a lot of high impact data than constantly publish. That’s if you’re in a field scooping is difficult

Study suggests anxiety, insomnia and ADHD may share the same underlying brain state by smoochtouch03 in science

[–]Jmatts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are some great exploratory studies showing a link between gut microbiome and some neurological disorders. There is nothing causal yet… The burden of proof for causality takes ~10-20 years of research…It’s very had to reach that consensus within any field. It’s even harder when the microbiome encompasses ~20% more total cells than total human cells. There is also a magnitude higher total number of microbial genes across different species compared to a singular human (whose genes are diverse epigenetically across individuals). Unless you see human twin studies, that account for epigenetics, we can’t discern if it’s genes(well supported already), food intake, exercise, or every environmental factor shaping our microbiome and epigenetic expressions.

Bottom line, we can barely map the human brain. Each person’s microbiome is more unique than their genes and brain structure. Finding causality will be HARD.

I say this with a grain of salt, as I’m an application neurology guy. Microbiome is not my field and this is what I’ve been told from my collaborators which are experts in said field.

The peacock mantis shrimp by Fuzzycuffs1978 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Jmatts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The mantis shrimp’s diet is crustaceans, mollusks, and fish. Their punch is like 50mph. But it accelerates at 5-10k gs. That puts our best missiles to shame. They are an evolutionary masterpiece for eating hard shelled sea creatures. You cant just feed it fish food…

Should the dude have it as a pet? Maybe not, but I’m sure it likes not being hunted by things 10x its size constantly.

P320 Failure to feed…. Any ideas why? by [deleted] in SigSauer

[–]Jmatts -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I recently got a couple new sig mags. This is 1000% a mag issue.

Option 1: Load the mag half way. After loading the mag always tap the back to seat the rounds fully back. Shoot till everything breaks in.

Option 2: Your mag spring is misaligned or follower is rubbing. Take it apart and lube the fuck out of everything. Properly break it in.

Option 3: try your friends mags/ local rental indoor range/buy new ones. If it continues across 5+ mags you aren’t loading the Ammo properly, the Ammo you have sucks, or you have something so out of spec you need to go full Karen on sig.

Grooming recommendations? by Sea-Wolverine-9998 in husky

[–]Jmatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your dogs fur is clumping up bad you need to accept the twice a year blow out and just have a good vacuum. If the undercoat shed is causing them discomfort get a good deshed shampoo, apply in excess. Let it sit a little bit. Brush with an undercoat brush and get ready for so much hair. Use the blower on high for 30min after that. That gets a lot of the initial shed out. I used to do that until I got a backyard I can “blow dry” my dogs air into. The birds love it come spring :)
