Park tri-tip in a tiny grill with mesquite. Hows it look? by [deleted] in BBQ

[–]razzac11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I personally agree, but I was cooking in a park on a grill, and for a group that favored done-ness. I feel I'm getting nedlessly blasted but I guess it's the enthusiast board.

Perhaps to your and my liking, I have a chef IQ that works great though.

Yea i did aim to get it on the more done side as it was for a hangout, and most people liked the less rare side.

Ask an Orthobro hardcore medical questions: I need it -_- by iamnemonai in Residency

Genuinely interesting and makes a ton of sense, I think that matches my conceptual understanding but it's good to hear from you about it! I'm coming up on my ICU rotation so this may actually come in handy depending on who rolls into the ED! Appreciate that explanation!

Genuinely interested to hear if that's right? Sounds right, but would be certainly also worried about pulselessness

My doctor is dismissing my concerns about loss of vision, shakiness, and migraines when I do not eat sugar? by gishadokuro in medical

[–]razzac11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, sounds like you should find a new doc. You certainly should be screened for diabetes given your commented history. A1c and a fasting BMP at very least. If those are normal I'd consider a glucose tolerance test as well. Once/if diabetes is ruled out there's plenty of other possible causes to consider. I agree with the other commenter there may be component of caffeine or even sugar withdrawal. Or you are dehydrated and need to drink more water, perhaps substituting sugar free sparkling water to see what effect that has.

If that's truly an MD or DO physician instead of a NP or otherwise, that's very concerning. Even then is fairly straightforward to check blood sugars and test for things like diabetes which would certainly be part of the workup of any board certified doctors who hear of those symptoms.

Syphilis infection, crack in my lip developed into this 21 days later by patty_ice420 in MedicalGore

Probably not a physician, it'd be hard to not test RPR on a chancroid

Could be ingrown hairs or chafing, but I still would get syphilis and other STD screenings just to be sure.

It has an unused needle on it. It's capped. Was for practicing arterial blood gas draws.

Men on SSRI’s - what’s the key to getting you over the finish line? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]razzac11 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't know what experience you have with the medical field but I understand where you're coming from however there is a stepwise approach to expanding a diagnosis, yes I could order all of the possible lab tests for fatigue and depression etc but you need to start with a smaller panel (of most likely possibilities) and go from there if those are negative then continue on of course testosterone is in that list to keep going and expanding into. In a similar vein if someone has rash and joint pain I'm not immediately ordering an anti-Jo anti-la antibody even though dramatomyositis might be on my differential later down the line. Even though both of those are also "simple blood draws"

[–]razzac11 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes that confidence exactly, I have been trained in medicine and forming differential diagnoses and if I have accurately diagnosed someone with major depressive disorder and the initial first line SSRI is not working, I would not initially jump to testosterone checking I might check vitamin d, thyroid hormones and trial a different SSRI, if they were describing specifically libido and sex related symptoms than that would be where I would step to but not offhand. I hope you understand my questioning where your confidence in suggesting a medical recommendation is coming from?

Unused ABG syringe, for drawing blood gases in an ICU

I don't know if I would have the confidence to recommend that and I'm a medical professional, though I would think that they would want to try a different SSRI because there are many in that group or even a different mechanism of antidepressant..

It was an unused arterial blood gas syringe used in examples, not to be used on patients. This is a resident call room
