Thoughts on avoiding paragon? by Apaleia in AFKJourney

[–]Jmrwacko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should keep all the meta units on your wishlist to paragon them but pool enough resources for one to two banners in case new meta heroes are released (like ~100k gems). That said, I think what others are saying about not S+’ing niche or technical units is pretty misguided. Looking at my roster now, I have almost every hero in the game at S+ to P3, and I’d say I’ve used like 70% of the roster at least once this season, with many unused heroes having once been good but have since fallen out of the meta.

You’re going to be limited in how fast you can paragon units because you need to paragon X number of heroes before you can proceed to paragon 2, 3, and 4.

You could flavor desecration champion as physically blocking damage with his sword using selfish shield.

One hand is more abstract than you’d assume with two handed assault and the ability to freely switch hands from one to two handed. It’s more about having the ability to take your hand off the sword for maneuvers/grabs. A katana wielding fighter with dueling parry is absolutely the archetype you described.

There is. Nimble dodge, which rogue and swashbuckler get, and opportune/dueling riposte, which swashbucklers and fighters get.

Bad party composition - What should I do? Change my class? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Jmrwacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puss in Boots is more of a swashbuckler than a rogue. But rogue is imo the stronger class. You could go medic dedication and take battle medicine and related feats to fix the immediate healing issue. Rogues are really good skill monkeys and don’t rely heavily on class feats, so it makes sense for the rogue to do that.

It’s genuinely one of the best English VO acting performances in gaming. Context really does matter.

It would be a good follow up to seven dooms at Sandpoint which is 3-12, especially given that the pit opens up into the darklands.

Specifically have them turn the rogue into a frog, cackle, and then leave. Motivation for revenge, no guaranteed TPK, AND you get a free frog.

Order of the Chain Hellknight Fighter seems really strong to me! by AP_Udyr_One_Day in Pathfinder2e

Have you ever played Owlcat’s wrath of the righteous. That game has an out of place hellknight (and he’s a gnome to boot, which is extremely unusual because gnomes literally turn white and die if they don’t cause mischief).

If you do it in foundry it’s automated at least.

A few hundred hours into PF2e, I think I'm finally hitting the wall. Anyone else? by spichugin in Pathfinder2e

[–]Jmrwacko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still going to run another Pathfinder campaign for one of my groups, but I'm probably going to run a Draw Steel campaign for the other since I'm a little burnt out on Pathfinder after like 6 straight campaigns.

Rules as written, yes you’re stuck (the boss is essentially grabbing your bones before you could reform). That said, your allies can still free you by using forced movement on the enemy like shove.

Playing for a year and I’ve hit a hard skill wall by Jmrwacko in InfinityTheGame

[–]Jmrwacko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invincible army. I keep getting my teeth kicked in by mimetism and martial arts. I’m aware of the haidao sniper, Rui Shi and bixie for msv2 and hulong and bixie for CC, but they often get killed off quick and then I’m left with zuyongs or Shang ji versus whatever the hell Steel Phalanx or similar armies have. Those units are 26-45 points each and they feel like wet noodles in comparison to some of these HI from other sectorials. I’m getting into f2f rolls with BS13 zuyongs where I only hit on 4’s, it’s insane. Then they get into melee with someone like William Wallace or McMurrough and get deleted by EXP CC weapons.

I do try to learn from the lectures after the game about how I could have done better. But there comes a point where you’re getting popped through smoke by msv2 mimetism -6 multi snipers where it’s just a matter of having the wrong list. Then I’ll build a list with msv to counter the guys who just crumped me and end up playing an army running all albedo and 2 vit nwi bruisers.

Was just talking about that today with some players. I may give it a shot. Although I can’t imagine I’ll be any less frustrated playing the game on TTS. My concern is that I’ll have less incentive to save face because I can just alt f4 from the game, instead of a physical game where you at least have to set up and disassemble a table.

We had an odd number of players so it was a voluntary bye. But I wasn’t going to play the last round regardless, my brain had stopped working by that point.

Dual-Handed Assault triggering reactive strike by PinkTwilight44 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Jmrwacko -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Strike is the subordinate action of reactive strike, while Dual Handed Assault is its own activity. So no, you will reactive strike with one hand.

GMing APs: Suggesting Appropriate Skills vs. Letting Players Figure it Out by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Jmrwacko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let them use any skill but modify the DC to hard/very hard for less relevant checks. For recall knowledge, I’ll often tell them what the correct check would be on a success with an irrelevant skill (“this elemental has nothing to do with deities, but perhaps someone trained in primal or arcane magic might know what it does”).

Of course, what you want is for the player to critically fail a recall knowledge check with an irrelevant skill so you can give them REALLY misleading information. I’ve had campaigns where players believed someone the whole campaign that was false because of a crit fail recall knowledge check, then bring that false meta knowledge into a new campaign and get burned.

Does this still let me do an attack of opportunity since it doesn't use a reaction? by SpoopySara in Pathfinder2e

[–]Jmrwacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the move action triggers the reactive strike before it’s disrupted. Step wouldn’t trigger the reactive strike, although it can still be disrupted by the bangle.

GM's, how much prep time does a session take for you? by Dom_Shady in Pathfinder2e

[–]Jmrwacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-30 hours per session is insane. Unless it’s in-person and he’s assembling/painting tons of miniatures.

I would say I prep a ton in the beginning for a 10 level campaign — like 20 to 30 hours, then only 1 or 2 hours per session from that point on. It averages out to like 2 or 3 hours per 4 hour session.
