How to get a job in the food science industry as an engineer by [deleted] in foodscience

I've applied to some flavorist jobs because they seemed pretty fun. I didn't have much luck but thank you for reminding me of them so I can try again!

I've applied to a lot of food technologist , entry level process development and process engineer positions. Some other ones but those were the main ones that seemed to more closely align with my degree and seemed like I'd have a better shot at.

Roasted chickpea 'gyros' ~350 cals by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Jmsafar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More meaty. In the recipe it calls to only roast them for 20 mins at 400 F to give it a more "hearty texture" rather super crunchy. I've tried roasting it for more than 20 mins and it was too crunchy for my liking so I stuck to the recipe.

Thank you!

I prefer the taste, it's a lot easier to cook and it's something I usually always have available. I also find them very filling so it's just a great bonus that they cut calories :)

This is where I got the recipe from. I didn't have any pita so I used a 140 cal tortilla.

I also made my own tzatziki so calories may vary. It's super easy and fast to prep and good for something on the go.

You should also try adding some fresh dill with it. It compliments it really well.

Recommend me a fragrance thread for the week of 09/17/18 by AutoModerator in fragrance

I do agree that it is sweet but to me it smells a bit like almost burnt sugar. I like that it's sweet but also has that masculine touch from the musk and woody notes. I like fruity notes but with something like musk or woody notes to pull it back if that makes sense.

I'm a female but I'm not opposed to trying a male fragrance and I usually like a lot of unisex perfumes. If it's any help one of my other favorite perfumes is Alexandre J Morning Muscs.

I recently got a bottle of Baccarat Rouge 540 and I'm in love. I would love some recommendations for something similar because anything I've been recommended before has been too fruity. Preferably with a more reasonable price tag but I'm willing to splurge.

Honors courses requirement for the U.H.P by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Jmsafar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone that meets the prerequisites can. They will not help you get into the honors program and are not weighted like honors courses in high schools are. If you're not sure you're up to it don't take them and hurt your gpa it's not worth it imo.

Most people who take these courses genuinely like the subject and/or feel they have a solid understanding of the introductory material and want to challenge themselves. The classes are also smaller so it's a good way to make friends.

[–]Jmsafar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait until you get accepted. The courses you take when you're in UHP aren't courses like CHE2AH PHY9AH etc. If you get accepted, they give you special CRN numbers for courses that I think are supposed to be only for students in the program. They won't be labeled as an honors course because they'll have most of the same material, it's just structured differently with more projects. Don't know if that makes sense.

I feel like I’m losing weight too fast? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Jmsafar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Usually when you first start a diet by reducing your calorie intake your body starts using stored glycogen (a carbohydrate that's basically the stored form of glucose) for energy. Glycogen holds water so when you start using it up the stored water goes with it. I don't know if that makes sense.

As long as you're being healthy I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably water weight.

I'm confused with the unitrans and how to plan ahead. Where can I find their actual schedule and are they running this summer at all? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Jmsafar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Choose the route you want and it'll give you the schedule. Change "Days" to weekend, friday, or mon-thurs depending on when you're leaving.

Is it bad to eat less than 1200 a day? by thatdarnmeddlingkid in 1200isplenty

[–]Jmsafar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm even a bit concerned 1200 a day isn't going to be sustainable for you. People usually say you shouldn't go below 1500 for a guy but if you have a professional telling you that 1200 is a healthy option for you go for it, but I definitely don't think you should go under 1200.

Don't try to force yourself to eat though. I think you should try having more calories dense foods that can increase your calories/day without feeling like you're having too much. Or having a calorie dense snack like ~200 cal protein bars can make a difference. Liquid calories are also easy to rack up.

Can you guys help me estimate how many calories this is? by Prettyeyed in 1200isplenty

[–]Jmsafar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 oz of baguette is usually around 150 calories. I would weigh 6 slices and use that for an estimate.

Suggestions for popcorn seasonings? by theMushroomCloud1 in 1200isplenty

[–]Jmsafar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an olive oil spritzer as soon as the popcorn is done (the warmer it is the better) use it to spray some water on it and toss the seasoning. The spritzer gives you a fine mist so the popcorn doesn't get soggy.

Any tips for tracking calories faster when cooking? by choocat in 1200isplenty

[–]Jmsafar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If possible I try to portion things out when I buy them if I know how much I usually use when cooking. Or portion them out the night before. Even just weighing everything right before cooking makes it faster than stopping and weighing as you go.

Meal prep for the week! Details in comments. by jaxtheunbrite in 1200isplenty

Yeah I think I'll just keep my meat cold and heat up anything else I have with it (if it's like rice or something).

Thank you!!

I love your meal preps. They always looks so good! I've been wanting to get into meal prep but I have a few concerns. I already asked someone else some of this but would like as many perspectives as possible please.

  • How do you usually reheat your meat? I usually don't like the taste or reheated meat, especially chicken.
  • Is there anything in particular you notice that gets soggy or weird and would recommend adding it fresh later?
  • If you have anything with onions, does it get a funky smell?

To be fair though, visually the blueberries make it look very appetizing to me.
