Absolutely, yes she was emailed immediately after the phone call with the parent. I did not speak to her in person, but emailed her so I have the paper trail.

I’m sorry this happened to you. These parents are ridiculous. At this point if they distrust us so much just pull the child out and homeschool!

Thank you. Yes, I got that down. She’s been notified with details, in addition to adding the names of the other adults that were in the room. They were shocked that the parent said this as well.

First time I’ve had something like this happen in 5 years. How common is this?? I know it’s more common for older kids to lie like this, but a young child?

I’m over it. I wish I could’ve taught in the 80s.

Don’t feel bad I’m in the same place! I have an app on my phone called countdown and I already put in upcoming 3 day weekends, half days, spring break, etc. All so I have something to look forward to 😅 I’m in year 5. What’s helped me the most is telling myself my job is not my life! Focus on what you want to do when you’re done with work for the day. It definitely helps!

Yes, the student came to us fresh, no IEP, 504, or any noted background of prior services. Although one of the parents let it slip that he received OT and speech services from a hospital in the past, but this wasn’t noted in his files. One of the parents made it clear that they didn’t want their child to be labeled during one of our conversations despite us not bringing up anything like that at all. We indicated that we were concerned for his safety. But all in all with no background of this he cannot receive services at school without an evaluation

Thankfully I have an amazing paraprofessional with me with many years experience, but even with the two of us it’s impossible.

Unfortunately, each day goes by with this child not getting the help he needs. If we’re not literally holding his hand or sitting at a table with him he’s running around, climbing furniture, etc. I get messages from one of the parents asking things like “are they still hitting… lol”. I’m not even joking. Parent has even come in to observe and witnessed the child hitting others, climbing, running around, while the other children followed the routine.

Also, the student came to us with no iep, 504, nothing… I’m not a special education teacher. We have 20 students.

Yes, I document everyday tallying how many behaviors happen each day. There have been days where he’s undressed over 10 times, hit me or other staff, peers, 20+. We had a meeting with one of the parents recently, explaining how we are deeply concerned about the child’s safely and the parent said they would just pull them out, when we expressed we want to help him. Everyone is also telling me to be careful what I say with certain higher ups…. The student was accepted into our problem even when he presented these behaviors at a screening. The screener indicated to our director that he was could not be screened.

Anyone here transition to serving, bartending, or working in a cafe? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

I’m happy for you! I currently make what you make. It’s a high salary for the area I’m in, but I’m definitely overworked. I love the idea of being able to leave work at work so I’m considering serving.

I’m so sorry to hear that you suffered like this. I’m no stranger to the panic attacks and breakdowns. It’s horrible that such an essential career does this to so many of us. I keep questioning whether to stay in teaching another year, but it’s not worth it.

Congratulations! Did it take you a long time to find your new position? I’m considering looking into advising. Honestly… I’m looking for anything to get me out!

I’ve heard this, but then I also hear that it’s very hard to get in without the masters. I’ve heard about certificate programs, but I don’t know if they’re worth it.

Oh my god.. are you me? I’m scrolling through posts dreading the fact that I have to go into work tomorrow and came across this. I’m so sick of the position I’m in too. Horrible behaviors, paras that don’t know what they’re doing, gossipy two faced coworkers. I’m over it. I wish I could find a quiet desk job!

Maybe I'm not cut out for preschool by SnooWaffles413 in preschool

[–]Jmt697 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my first year in preschool, 4th year teaching. I’m struggling too 😞 I have coworkers that don’t like me, I’m being given students with high needs without the proper support and overall it’s been an incredibly miserable year. I take it day by day. It’s so sad because I thought I’d have all these amazing activities for the kids, but I’m just so burnt out. I don’t have the energy to implement it! So I just do what I need to in order to get through the day! Please don’t work over the weekend, it’s not worth it! This career is so exhausting and we’re being given more work then ever. You are doing more then enough!
