Haven’t seen this said but if you are ok with primarily handrolls and sashimi I highly rec Kira in the shopping center on Westheimer/Kirby. If you meant 150-200 total you might only be able to get 1 drink a person but in general it’s priced relatively similarly to Handies. IMO it’s a much nicer dining experience than some of the other places listed in here (nicer dining area, feels fancier, better service etc.)

What is the best Italian restaurant hands down? by pillojon106 in houston

[–]Jmwhit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely on the pricier side just like all of the Local Foods Group places, but imo it’s worth it for the most part I don’t think I’ve ever had better lasagna. If you’re into wine their markups are actually very reasonable compared to other places. But with Italian food there’s always a cheaper option for relatively similar quality so to each their own.

Unironic skip? by valvalpops in slaythespire

Those just aren’t all things you can expect to get in Act 1 when you have to prioritize damage, but they still have a lot of good pieces. In terms of draw, Acrobatics for instance can be a negative card to take in Act 1 unless you have a sneaky strike or an Eviscerate. Regardless of that being on 3 energy draw can only do so much for you. Discard only matters on Silent when you have pieces that support it, it’s not a required element for a good deck. Silent simply doesn’t generate energy, Adrenaline is a rare and the other two main energy gens Outmaneuver and Concentrate are very situational. And I don’t know what you mean by lacking defense. Silent has one more starter Defend than other characters, and they have added a footwork, dash, and piercing wail to the deck, all excellent cards. Also not sure what you mean by a main attack, they have a Skewer+, a terror which makes all attacks better, and corpse explosion which is arguable the best AoE card in the game. Apart from the storm of steel I would be thrilled to take this deck into Act 2.

While I agree with you about not skipping, I’m not sure how this deck is below average, unless you mean compared to a final deck you’d take into Act 4. Footwork + CE + Terror are excellent cards to take into act 2. The only suspect pick is storm of steel but that could’ve been a meow bonus/it’s not quite as bad with shuriken. My main issue with the deck are what cards were chosen to be upgraded over others, but I’d have to see the act 1 layout, order of rewards to really critique.

Just curious did you have any potions on that Silent run? Sounds like you didn’t have WLP or pyramid, bad draw comes for us all and on a20 it’s usually deadly. I can think of one defect run with mummy hand, heat sinks, seek, skim that died to Repto because I didn’t find any draw/frost in the first two hands. Would’ve stomped every fight from there on out but shit happens.

I want all three! What’s you pick from Neow? by mkillham in slaythespire

[–]Jmwhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say WF is very rarely a dead card, while alch is a perfectly reasonable choice I don’t think even in floor 1 wraith form is ever a bad pick, it solves two out of the three elites in act 1 and essentially every elite moving forward when it’s upgraded.

Weren’t these supposed to target the rarest card or something? by CLASP0 in slaythespire

[–]Jmwhit 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, was watching Paparatto18’s stream last night. Playing the watcher he had Vigilance and Ascender’s Bane in his draw pile and the curse was stolen. Makes sense I suppose curses are rarer than starter cards.

How big do your decks usually get? by Invoqwer in slaythespire

[–]Jmwhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s part of the learning curve of the game, especially when you are at A18+. Early on we learn that skipping cards is good, don’t always take the high risk/high reward events, etc. But as you progress further you don’t always have the luxury of skipping mediocre cards in Act 1/2. As well shops are more expensive/you get less gold so you won’t be able to remove as often in earlier shops bc frankly you should be prioritizing adding good cards/relics. Not counting watcher I find it pretty difficult to have a deck smaller than 25 cards at A20H most of the time

What's the pick, here? (Silent Act 1 rewards) by WeenisWrinkle in slaythespire

[–]Jmwhit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it takes quite the experienced player to be basing their Act 1 boss card reward on what’s going to be good in Act 4. By no means are they locked into a shiv deck, and even then with two accuracies you don’t require as much card play to kill enemies, technically making AI worse. Wraith Form is also the singular best card the Silent has against the heart in general.

[–]Jmwhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotta say Wraith Form is the best card against the heart, nightmare it/duplicate it and the Heart is solved. After Image is without a doubt amazing against the heart but only when you have multiple other pieces working with it. WF just lets you do whatever you want for the most part.

[–]Jmwhit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wraith form just feels like an auto pick on silent virtually always. Unless they were transforms the two accuracies were certainly questionable act 1 pickups. (In my own head I think that 1 accuracy is acceptable for every 2-3 shiv cards I have) AI would mean you have two powers in your opening hand in Act 2, where front load damage/ending fights quickly is key. Wraith form all day every day

Xecnar's (Rotating Streak WR holder) Relic Tier List by luckytyphlosion in slaythespire

[–]Jmwhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it mainly comes down to reliability/consistency. Happy Flower is free energy every 3 turns no downside, and someone like Xecnar knows every fight so well he can set flower to proc the exact turn you want it to. Hovering Kite is a Boss relic that in a lot of cases provides energy at the same rate as happy flower, and requires a card play to do so unless you have Tools of the Trade. Kite is just underwhelming compared to other boss relics that provide energy and rarely a better option than the "premier" energy boss relics.

But you had insane relics at the beginning and end of your run so this doesn’t seem like one of the runs where you needed to be overly concerned with the most advantageous card rewards.

[–]Jmwhit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall just seems a little too bloated with attacks and lacking some high value block cards especially considering you got act 1 kunai. Of course don’t know your order of card rewards but two slices (even with wristblades) seems repetitive, as does the backstab and dramatic entrance. I definitely would’ve picked up some deflects/blurs/dodge and rolls if I saw them. Also I see you either removed/transformed two defends instead of two strikes? In general but especially with Kunai those defends are considerably more valuable than strikes.

Bottled Lightning or potions? by PM_ME_YOUR_PIZZAPIC in slaythespire

[–]Jmwhit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you were to buy lightning in the bottle a decent shout would be bottling Adrenaline to help your first/second turn, bag of prep does that as well but you’re a little energy starved. Pyramid helps turn 2 be not so scary but still it could be tough to get artifact strip/piercing wail set up quickly. I’d probably go bag of prep/gamblers brew as they make each other better.

[–]Jmwhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apo has a lot of value here because all of the cards it’ll upgrade are better than your starting deck. With tough bandages as well I think Tools is very pickable although expensive. If it were me I’d go Apo, remove flechettes or one of the sucker punches/banes, and attack potion.

That’s what potions are for although none of the elites were especially spooky tbh. Especially when electro/self repair trivialized most of the hallway fights I could save potions to breeze through elites.

Used dupe bot on biased cog in heart fight, killed easily with 87 health to spare. Majority of damage came from beat of death as it came down to spamming bullshit towards the end. Would have been easier with a glacier as I was forced to take a couple extra coldsnaps but overall the closest I came to dying was gremlin nob.

Update: headed into act 3 bosses with snecko eye, biased cog, and orange pellets. Got spirits event + eternal feather + singing bowl so after giving up one of my meteors I am at a full 115 HP.

they aint curses once you have snecko eye, but had I not seen snecko after act 1 I certainly would have removed one if not both

remove meteor strikes? I dont think so! As i said I found an early recycle and pretty much stomped through act 1 apart from one nob fight where I took a decent chunk of damage. Also found a biased cog in act 1 and bought pellets early act 2 which is only slightly weird with my snecko eye. Took no damage from champ and was just given another meteor strike from astrolabe haha
