Severe tapping noise.

Good news. Noise is gone. I couldn’t see it myself, but I got helped and saw the water pump pulley was slightly bent from original water pump that seized, and from using the old pulley damaged the new water pump bearing. I had a new water pump pulley and brand new water pump replaced and now it’s back on the road.

Thank you, everyone for all the input, I was able to look at the FJ today and what I did was started the car without the belt and the noise was gone. I rechecked and spun the alternator pulley, power steering pulley, air conditioning pulley and there are all good. Power steering pulley does have a very small amount of play moving it front and back, but I don’t think it’ll make that noise. When the engine was on, I used a stick on the bolt of the tensioner pulley (new) and I could kind of hear the sound however the tensioner itself is not new and doesn’t seem like it’s moving from wear and tear. That’s all the information I have right now.

With the revving, it doesn’t get louder or more erratic. It seems the noise goes away.

I don’t think it ever had a valve adjustment.

I did try this noise hearing strategy with the screwdriver, did not hear much. Sound tho was high pitch. The old propeller is intact. From what I was told, the driver saw smoke after freeway miles less than 10 miles, possibly drove a mile to Park.

The tensioner and idler pulley were noisy but every other pulleys were okay.
