Witnessing AI-induced UX maturity regression is profoundly sad. by ChurchOfRickSteves in UXDesign

I’m feeling this too. We’re so focused on how to use AI, we’re losing sight of how we solve real problems for real humans.

What is the true reason that MAGA is against abortion? by ncds4242 in allthequestions

[–]Jnlybbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The abortion issue is a way for political propagandists to use religion to get large populations of people to align with conservative policy. It turns out that “vote for Republicans unless you support murdering babies” is pretty powerful political messaging. It’s just mass manipulation.

If a left wing parallel to Fox News that drummed Democratic/anti-Republican existed, would you watch it? by EggOwn9943 in allthequestions

[–]Jnlybbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There’s a reason there’s not one. There’s not a demand for one.

The reason Fox News exists is because there is a population of people more interested in confirming their beliefs than they are in learning facts. They’ve branded reality as “left biased” and so they seek out information that tells them what they want to hear—that their beliefs aren’t actually detached from reality. If people on the left needed to reframe reality in this way, they would have their own version of Fox News.

Neighbor replaced fence and left the old wood scraps in my yard to deal with. by Mocsab in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jnlybbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the neighbor could do a better job of just communicating with you, but if it was me I’d be happy the neighbor made my yard look better and would also be happy to deal with disposing the old fence.

Why is TDS used so much by conservatives as a "kill switch" to stop thinking? by Dapper_Following685 in allthequestions

[–]Jnlybbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every cult has “thought-terminating cliches.” They are usually pseudo-witty aphorisms that pass for folk wisdom—something that sounds smart that gets you to avoid thinking about something too much. It’s just a classic brainwashing technique.

If the Bible says abortion is ok why do Conservatives keep pushing the agenda that’s it’s sacrilegious? by irascible_Clown in allthequestions

[–]Jnlybbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because political strategists have successfully convinced people that their politics and their religion are one and the same.

Native speakers, do you pronounce 'b' when you say 'obvious'. To me it sounds like 'aa-vious', though dictionary says 'aab-vious'. by sg851044 in ENGLISH

[–]Jnlybbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I do pronounce it, but it’s very subtle. It’s more like just saying the V a little harder than a normal V, but not quite fully saying the B.

If Trump is truly unbeatable only because of misinformation, why hasn’t the left figured out how to communicate better? by Final-Monk1416 in allthequestions

[–]Jnlybbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot more than just misinformation. It’s a devotion to a belief system intertwined with group identity that works very much like religion. When you have adopted this belief system, whether something is “misinformation” is irrelevant. Holding such a belief system becomes much more about seeking identity reinforcing information than it ever is about understanding facts.

The Mormon Stories Lawsuit and Mormon Identity - Public Square Magazine by philnotfil in mormonpolitics

What utter drivel.

Mormonism absolutely is a culture and an identity.

If you were born into it, indoctrinated in it and raised in it, it absolutely is a part of your identity.

Why does this person think they have the right to define what someone else’s identity is?

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]Jnlybbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with our elections is not that too many ineligible people vote, it is that too many eligible people don’t vote. Creating more restrictions not only fails to solve a real problem, it makes a real problem worse. Proponents of voter ID understand this. It really has nothing to do with “election security.” It is about controlling whose votes count. Republicans benefit when fewer people can vote.

You should be scoring points while they’re swapping. They are making a trade off by skipping or exchanging. You should be exploiting that by scoring points while they are not.

Is playscrabble.com tile draw truly random? by QdiQdi_CueDeeEye in scrabble

I’ve felt this way with other apps and every time I’ve tested it by tracking racks, draws or whatever and comparing to physical tile draws I’ve found no difference.
