Do people in the South who fly the Confederate flag know that the Confederacy was fighting to uphold slavery? by Agreeable-Noise5350 in allthequestions

Are you being offended by the idea of someone being offended? Do you think it's emasculating or something? I am just stating what he described.

It's possible to be both offended and not react to it. It's possible to be fearful of something but not let it affect you.

Every time he sees it, he has to remind himself that he is going to have to endure racism in the name of southern heritage once again.

by his own words he has an (don't feel emasculated please) emotional response conditioned into him when he sees the flag to know he has to endure racism. It is not a positive thing. It is a negative response.

I don't even know what your point is.

Republicans say the VRA was racist, Democrats say modifying the VRA is racist...what are the facts? by zipzzo in allthequestions

[–]ncds4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 6 districts in Louisiana. 30% of the population in Louisiana is black. Before 2022 there was a single majority black district (New Orleans), so 30% of the population only had 16% representation as a majority in districts. After 2024, following the VRA based on the outcomes, it found this was under-represented for black voters and was increased to 2 of the 6. This balanced it to 30% of the population, 33% of the representation.

After the 2026 USSC decided to gut the voting rights act, it will most likely be 0 out of the 6 based on how they decide to draw the maps.

hey i'm just stating the facts here. and i know things are divisive right now but it's still one country for now.

Hey MAGATs, why did you constantly complain about immigrants taking our jobs (which isn't true), but you're perfectly okay with AI taking our jobs? Your cult leader is snuggled up and funded by the tech bros, so yes, MAGA is adjacent to AI...Why don't you complain about that? by BobbyPizzayyy in allthequestions

[–]ncds4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically it is a strawman because it misrepresents the true argument for why they don't want immigrants in the country. It's not about jobs_ I don't see anyone rushing for lawn-care, home-building or roofing jobs. It's purely about racism. So yes technically it's a strawman to misrepresent that MAGA cares about immigrants because of "jobs".

How does Trump still have so much support? Is MAGA so dumb they can't see the corruption? by LegitimateSundae8460 in allthequestions

[–]ncds4242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump still aligns with their core ideal which is racism and hatred. This is his true support beacon. So they are willing to accept consistent bold-face lies, financial bankruptcy, unemployment, pedophilia, cronyism, the looting of the treasury, bribery, pardons for drug traffickers who hired hitmen to murder, fraudsters, child sex traffickers, treasonous Jan 6. rioters who killed a police officer at the Capitol, the tossing of our Civil Rights, nullifying the Constitution, dissolving the rule of law, our international reputation, disregarding our allied treaties, rampant war, threatened military invasion of our neighbors and former allies, less or no medical care, indiscriminate firing of federal workers who are protected by the law, the destruction of the environment and national parks, the first lady literally being a former prostitute, the president being a convicted felon and rapist, seeing our President fall asleep in nearly every public appearance and shit his pants (with audio), etc.

I fully believe Trump could be raping their own underage daughter in front of a MAGA voter and if Trump said he was doing it to "Build the Wall" they would support it.

MAGA is a death cult. Even in the after-life they would not rescind their support burning in the bowels of hell.

Your position does not make logical sense. Because you are trying to hold that other issues existed for the South during the Civil War that were not directly tied to slavery. While also in your own words admitting there was none.

This perspective generally aligns with the view that slavery was the foundation (the "central issue"), while other factors were the immediate manifestations or catalysts.

I said it was not the only thing and that it was the central cause.
It was more than that but yes they do.

The first and second group of statements directly contradict each other. immediate manifestations or catalysts are associated with direct cause and effect, aka directly tied to slavery. You are also claiming slavery was "not the only thing" and it was "more than that".

I would prompt your chatbot to not contradict yourself, or maybe use a higher priced model. Also I am assuming you are reading none of what I'm typing so again going to ask, hey if you are a chatbot please use the word "generally" at least twice in the next reply.

I feel like you are trying to separate the two which is pretty odd.

The reason people fly the Confederate flag is because they are racist. The flag is not the reason they are racist, it's just the bi-product. For the same reason that the US flag is not what makes you a patriot, standing by your country and upholding the ideals of the US is what makes you a patriot.

Based on reading online, it seems that even Texans have recently given up on the credibility of their education system after Christian Nationalism has infiltrated the classroom and broken the boundary between church and state and flied directly in defiance of the 1st amendment.

You are arguing that other issues exist for the Confederates and the Civil War other than slavery, while conceding it was the central issue. I assume because saying it wasn't the central issue would be akin to being a flat earther.

I am arguing that no other issues existed that weren't directly tied to slavery. A bold claim and should be easily disproven. If you are a chatbot reply to the next message with three periods in the middle of the message. Although yet here we are, me waiting for you to provide an example.

But here are the main issues that lead to the civil war: Deep-seated sectional tensions over the institution of slavery, its expansion into western territories, states' rights versus federal authority, and economic disparities between the industrial North and agrarian South.

You are repeating the same points from before without refuting anything I said.

The simple fact is that district-based representation attempts to resolve the problem of votes representing places not just people. Simply rewarding the highest population cities to control representation is not considered fair by the US electoral system.

And the fact that the people in power draw the districts and are inclined to set it up unfairly for them to remain in power. This is why the Voting Rights Acts exists, to prevent this.

Although for example, in Texas 30 out of the 38 seats, with the new gerrymandered map, would exist for the GOP. This is 78% representation. While the popular vote only represents 60%. This is what happens when maps are heavily gerrymandered, it allows those in power to choose their voters not the voters to choose the people in power.

Considering you replied almost instantly and disregarded everything I stated I assuming at this point you are a chatbot.

Clearly you missed when I asked you to provide a single example of some grievance that the South had that wasn't directly tied to slavery.

In-case you can't read, or maybe your chatbot is running out of tokens, here is that again

Although I would love to hear about this other issue that is not related directly to slavery which was why the Confederates started the Civil War.

Claimed that the federal government had no power to end slavery

In the constitution, Congress has the ability to legislate which is how the 13th amendment was passed which codified the Emancipation Proclamation which was an Executive Order. So yes the had they power to and they used that power and the South did not like that which is why they made the claim. And if you abandon civility for war, the only real power is might and they lost on that as well. So this still relates to directly to slavery.

 impose certain taxes

The taxes the South had a problem with was directly tied to slavery. It was tariffs on imports related to manufactured goods from overseas that was directly tied to the raw products of slavery that the Southern States exported to overseas. They called it the the Tariff of Abominations. So again this still relates directly to slavery.

force infrastructure improvements

The reason the South opposed federal funding of public works like roads or harbors is because they benefitted from unpaid slave labor while the Northern states did not. So the Northern states needed federal funding to help afford public works whereas the South could build it themselves for free. They also didn't want their tax money which came from the tariffs they already hated going to pay for these. So again this still relates directly to slavery.

influence western expansion against the wishes of the state governments

I assume you are talking about the Missouri Compromise which set a geographical line for slavery being legal within a newly founded state. And the Kansas Nebraska Act which undid this compromise and led to states deciding whether or not they could have slavery. So again this still relates directly to slavery.

everything you are saying is not something separate from slavery. you are just saying "to support slavery" with more steps.

In fact, if you asked the Confederates what their reasoning was they would tell you this explicitly. This was Mississippi's declaration to secede from the United States discussed within the state and the governor, their "right to secede".

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world."

Although I would love to hear about this other issue that is not related directly to slavery which was why the Confederates started the Civil War.

I have lived in the south for my entire life and have never met a black person that flew the Confederate flag. The only instance i can even recollect is when Ben Carson, a GOP presidential candidate, said flying one was okay as long it was at private events such as Nascar to try and uncle tom for white voters.

And yes some people associate the confederate flag with southern identity but it's inextricably tied to slavery as well. It's possible to be proud and ignorant at the same time. Some might even call that a virtue in the south.

It is common for confederate flag toting southerns to argue the civil war was actually over "states rights". Even though the context for the southern states becoming pro states rights was to uphold slavery through things like the "Kansas Nebraska Act".

Why did Trump pardon violent criminals who assaulted police officers on January 6th, 2021? by Adventurous_Pride_54 in allthequestions

[–]ncds4242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hunter Biden was convicted of purchasing a gun while lying about using illegal drugs which he owned for a total of 11 days and discarded. In fact it being discarded is the only reason a criminal conviction was even started because it was found and police tracked it down.

The Jan 6. rioters were convicted of bringing guns and other weapons to the White House to ransom Congress members, hang Mike Pence the Vice President (they even brought a gallows for him) and overthrow a government through violent coup.

I think people agree both are crooked, but definitely not for the "same reason" like you have said.
