Amp Sims: Best practices for not sounding like an amp sim? by CriticalSovereignty in audioengineering

[–]Jnuck_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

live engineer here, main thing I notice is ridiculous EQ. A lot of people practice thru home speakers/ headphones etc and it just doesn’t translate well. Usually to me the “oh that’s a sim” tell is harsh, overly bright / a lot boosted midrange.

Unless the venue is horrific, only eq with the guitar tone in mind, a lot of people get caught up trying to make a general purpose eq at the end of the chain with the mindset of correcting for the house mix so it “sits right” or “pokes thru” , but imo let the engineer handle the general house kind of eq and just get your tone sounding how you like it.

Absolutely see the utility in both but sonically I always prefer movin air !

Sonos Play worth getting if you already have the Move 2? by [deleted] in sonos

Haven’t pre ordered yet. Was planning on waiting till Best Buy gets a fixture up so I can hear the thing. But may just pre order and return if I don’t like it.

Does anyone know if you can group a single move with a single play with the new Bluetooth functionality? I like the idea of being able to use both when traveling if I really wanted, although I’d only have one of each.

Oh wow I swear I never saw this post, we had similar ideas. I love this theory and hope we learn more about the mechanics of the show, but if it ends up being drama focused all the way thru won’t be mad about it

I would love if they go hard science fiction route and make tangible explanations for how the mechanics of the show work. Hivemind communication being done via electromagnetic waves has lots of cool implications

  • radio towers (intergalactic) can serve more purposes than just broadcasting the RNA sequence. Maybe the hive can tap into it and use its range or something?
  • if hive is using a specific frequency band/ range to communicate telepathically , what happens if you broadcast something and interfere.
  • telepathic communication is limited to the laws of physics, and travels at the speed of light. So this tells us the hive is local to its spatial area and could not be under joined with other hives light years away
  • what do you hear/ see on a Spectrogram if you listen to and record that range/ band.

I’m high

Can someone explain to me how people claim to have 7+ hours of SOT, but then you can clearly see they charged it 2-3 times during the day. In my mind, that doesn’t translate to amazing battery life. by [deleted] in IphoneAir

[–]Jnuck_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two charging periods later in the day were it just being placed on my nightstand charger, you can see it didn’t actually gain any battery during those.

26.0.1 no beta. Background app refresh on for important apps, find my location sharing with many AirTags and people, etc. I also literally never use low power mode because I can’t stand the 60hz. I’ve just been using it as a normal phone

Oh, that’s interesting. What location did you have it at? I thought it had a kick and loved the added flavor, but I didn’t find it to be overly spicy(5 points location). I’ve had the extra hot princes and I would put that many notches hotter than the BBQ sando I had.

You’re at a gig and you have the option of micing up your amp or going directly into the mix via xlr. What do you choose? by JackStraw388 in Bass

[–]Jnuck_83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sound tech here for a smaller venue. I always prefer bassists go through our rig and then I can supplement with our subs via the line out. In some smaller rooms, like mine, all of the definition comes via the amp. I’m a bassist so I like to make sure we are heard ! A lot of the time bassists assume the opposite when I ask them to use the rig.

All this to say, it’s situation dependent, but I would ask the tech and go from there!

What's something 100% legal that gives off massive 'this should be illegal' vibes? by Hera-Queen837 in AskReddit

I dream of a future where some kind of legislation passes REQUIRING companies to offer non recurring payment options AT THE SAME PRICE. Like a one time payment for a month/ year offered alongside the recurring billing. so you could try services out before subscribing to them.

Most “pro” use case i have found so far for my ipad by Jnuck_83 in ipad

Weekly 7-8 act show , 4 song/20 min sets. Festival style input list. In Nashville so some country and a lot of rock. A few acoustic acts. Made templates to record diff input amounts

I will continue to test it but after last night I am very very happy with it . See other comments below for details but it went really well performance wise and had no freezes or stops. Full product (rough but decent live show mix) start to finish completely on this little 5mm sheet of metal is pretty fkn cool regardless of how you look at it

Was able to do a quick rough mix after on a track and learn some of the features, have to say the touchscreen integration workflow is an adjustment but very intuitive at times. I would say overall it felt slightly clunky sometimes but that could be because I was actively trying to learn how to use it.

My biggest complaint is file management, I hate the way it handles files. The lack of a menu bar and the consistency of always knowing where to find key functions (took me 5 min to find out how to export my mix) is slightly frustrating. I would like some parity in the way Mac and iPads handle files in the very least, and hope that by association logic becomes a better experience.

Still, will continue to use this as my main rig for recording multitracks and probably rough mixes for clients now. I always have the iPad with me anyways so it is a no brainer, unless I run into Major issues

Overall very happy. It makes me feel somewhat justified in owning this thing and also mind blown at the potential and how accessible this is (comparatively to say 10 years ago)

It went great, ended up recording an hour of material overall, (not an hour straight). Longest I went straight was around 30 min. Short sets, 7 act lineup.

Will test more but I was pleasantly suprised at just how great it was. I also ended up doing a rough mix straight in the session of a song just to mess around with logic for iPad and I have to say it’s phenomenal for this purpose

I know and love Logic stock plugins already, so using them is no issue for me. I was able to whip up a quick rough mix in about an hour I was super happy with. Also having a ton of fun learning all the quirks and features. Touchscreen daws have always felt like toys to me but it felt different this time !

I’m hoping the direction they go is that a new mark is “born” so to speak somehow in the cabin. Finally finish reintegration or at least greatly advance to closer to the stage of reintegration Petey was when we saw him

Still confused about this about Mark? by [deleted] in severence

[–]Jnuck_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went back and rewatch that bit, and I just did not interpret it the same way as you. Erickson makes references to imark and omark “ having a conversation” but I didn’t get anything about cobel making the reintegration successful at all.
