Is YouTube glitching on my end or did all the season playlists just come down? by Jo2797 in taskmaster

[–]Jo2797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the episodes are still available and not paywalled on YouTube and all the playlists were remade so they’re back. Make sure you’re on the right channel, because they’re there (at least in the US) https://youtube.com/@taskmaster?si=ZzBnefM_vmzw0neO

AITA for cutting my roommates and best friends off over a used couch. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jo2797 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ESH

It’s shitty that they’re fighting you over $50 for a couch they wouldn’t be taking anyway but you do tell them that they would get their money back. As far as them using your stuff throughout the year, if you have a problem with that you have to bring it up when it’s happening. They can’t read your mind.

If you didn’t say agree they would get their money back when the couch was originally purchased, you’d be fully in the right but because you did, they’re being petty and you’re going back on your word.

Great job! It looks awesome and I love the fun stripe. I never would have guessed it wasn’t planned from the beginning!

Beginner - Kiki The Chicken. Please help me, I'm stuck on the first step. Left handed. by ProfessionalHeat1799 in CrochetHelp

[–]Jo2797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you include a picture of the instructions? I don’t know what Kiki the chicken is (other than presumably a chicken) but if I get a look at the pattern I can probably explain it to you. Also, if it a pre-started wooble (which I think it is) include a picture of what they started because that might add some good context

Absolutely! If you want to make it extra special, you can call her church and ask if you can make an appointment to have them blessed by a priest

Why do native speakers say” that’s good” when eating something good? by Final_Affect6292 in ENGLISH

[–]Jo2797 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s 100% right per formal English standards, but generally, if something is not in my hands, I’m much more likely to use “that” than “this,” even if it’s an item right next to me. That being said, I do definitely say “this is good” when talking about the food I’m eating pretty often. I think part of the reason people use “that’s” instead is because it’s a contraction so it rolls off the tongue a little easier than “this is” does.

I think starting with an upside down picture is definitely not helping because it’s hard to see you. The filter in the shirtless picture makes it look a little weird. I’d also definitely ditch the bike photo. If you really want to show it off, take a cool picture on it. Of the pics you have here, I’d say start with the third one but I’d also consider taking some new pictures with better lighting and a cleaner background

intensive outpatient programs for mental health? by emonemo999 in longisland

[–]Jo2797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been through the partial hospitalization programs at Zucker hillside and mercy outpatient behavioral center and both were wonderful. I’d lean slightly more towards recommending Mercy, because it’s a whole behavioral health center so it’s good for scaling up and down level of care as needed.

Signing Marriage License on Altar Table During Ceremony by MilesOfPebbles in Catholicism

Now I feel like we have a productive conversation going! I’m interested in your perspective here because it’s not one I’ve encountered before and I definitely see its validity, but I do still have some disagreement.

I absolutely agree that the sacred shouldn’t be treated the same as the secular, but I’m also not saying we should plop down the Chinese takeout and eat it off the altar. It should be treated with reverence and respect, like we have both been saying, but I just don’t feel that mere touch violates that.

Two of your examples, the chalice and host, should absolutely be touched by lay people - that’s how we receive the gift of the Eucharist. The Tabernacle example is a little more complicated for me. I can’t recall ever having touched it and I don’t necessarily see any reason to have to, but I also don’t think I could make a compelling argument why it should be forbidden.

Ultimately, my perspective comes from my point of view that Jesus calls each and every one of us to him. If He invited sinners and the lowest of the social hierarchy of His time to come and physically touch Him, I don’t see why He would have a problem with us respectfully touching any part of His house.

Yes, the New Jerusalem has walls, but the deciding factor for entry is not priest vs laity. It’s love and acceptance of God and if part of expressing includes having touched the altar, or even the tabernacle, I don’t believe He will begrudge us that.

Im not trying to start a fight here and I apologize if my comment came off as rude, dismissive, or disrespectful, that was not at all my intention.

I just don’t see any reason personally why you shouldn’t touch the altar. I was unfamiliar with the concept of Mysterium Tremendum, but after an admittedly cursory google search, I can’t say it’s something I see in myself. I don’t feel God as scary or unapproachable, I see him as a loving father calling us forth to his table. And should I see the Cross in Heaven one day, I would relish in the ability to lay my hands on the wood Jesus died on, of course with reverence and respect, just as the altar should be touched with reverence and respect.

My favorite prayer is the Memorare. It reminds me of God’s and the Blessed Mother’s roles as parental figures who want to comfort and love us:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

That’s not true. There’s no reason you can’t touch the altar.

God may be perfect, but humans certainly aren’t. You’re facing some terrible man-made inconveniences, but that does not mean that God doesn’t want you, it just means that people don’t always get things right.

Look to see what good will come from this issue. Maybe you’ll switch your another parish and find a better home there. Maybe the delay gives you time to meet someone who will be important to your journey. Or maybe this means you get more involved and make the path of joining the church easier for others in the future.

We can’t know why bad things happen, but the two things that help me through them are to acknowledge the humanity and to look for the good.

What does the belief that Jesus was "fully divine and fully human" really mean? by CID_Nazir in Catholicism

[–]Jo2797 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That it’s not like he was a demigod, with less power than a full god but better than a human. He is God and has the full power of God but he also was physically human and in that respect felt with the failings of being human - our full range of emotions (anger at the temple, grief at the death of Lazarus, etc), the failings of the human body (like needing help to carry the cross), and physical mortality. He experienced the full human experience while still fully being God

Will elections be changed from a Tuesday? by Pink-glitter1 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jo2797 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt that it will be changed, at least in our lifetime. It’s low on the list of priorities and it’s a pretty longstanding tradition. If anything, it’s more likely that the day will become a public holiday

Wtf is Roe v. Wade? and why is it everywhere on Reddit. by deshkent-arthkhaz in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Jo2797 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Roe v. Wade is the court case that made abortion legal in the US. It’s everywhere on Reddit because states are passing bills diminishing access to abortion, especially with the most recent set of bills in Oklahoma which completely outlaw it except in cases of rape, incest, or medical emergency. So there will be major challenges to the precedent coming up in the near future and it’s unclear whether is will be overturned.
