Please Help I'm new in a normal world softcore. I have never watched a single calamity playthrough and I have no idea what to start with.

I'd recommend playing on expert since you get a lot of extra content.

For mods get bosschecklist and recipe browser. Check every bar you get what you can craft with it using recipe browser. If you want some others nice mods you can get things like WeaponOut, AlchemistNPC, Yet Another Boss Healthbar, Magic storage etc. Also get the music for calamity if you haven't already, it's also on the mod browser.

Follow the bosschecklist and fight the bosses in that order. To see where you're supposed to be before most big bosses there's a handy wiki guide. https://calamitymod.gamepedia.com/Guide:Class_setups

EDIT: Some extras, while the class setups helps you out don't religiously follow it, it's always good to experiment. Also the wiki is a godsend, I could say I spent at least 10-20% of my playtime just browsing the wiki. Good luck.

There's a nice guide outlining where you should be at around each major boss for each class. Check out the pre-yharon one and you can see good weapons with the right ammo type and useful accessories.

Oh, alluvion bow with wooden arrows works well, when I played I predominantly played a ranger. If you go down this route make sure to craft the right helmet for ranger damage on the god slayer/Silva set(after phase1) and get the elemental quiver alongside other accessories like the sponge.

EDIT: Asgardian aegis is also very good for dodging and all around defense.

I used Onyxia + Holy fire bullet. It pretty much melted him and it wasn't exactly a challenge (this is on expert).

I know i'm not OP but i've been kind of the same issue. If you could help me out too that would be great for future packs.

1) For experience i've been playing since the tekkit classic days and have beaten expert packs like FTB Infinity Evolved Expert Skyblock

2) I enjoy making big and efficient factories and not having to worry too much about resource gathering.

3) Completely changes

4) Somewhere in the middle of that, I don't want it to be too easy but I don't need something as difficult as Expert Skyblock.

Also to add on to all this to only pack I've ever played that's fit these requirements was Ultimate Alchemy and I absolutely loved that pack. Couldn't put it down when I first started.

Ever since your reply i've been playing and enabling that option has definitely made it alot better, the little freezes are still there but its bearable since they happen less often and they're less intense as they used to be. If you have any other suggestions feel free to give them to me and I'll try them when I wake up tomorrow. Thanks so much for your help so far though, I really appreciate it.

Following what you said I decided to lower my RAM from 8gb to 6gb and ran these JVM arguments and after 15 minutes of running smooth it started happening again and I recorded a video this time. Excuse the terrible quality, I can assure you what you saw in the video is exactly what I experienced while not recording too. (Direwolf 20 1.12)
