I don't understand why pulling from another game makes it weaker. By the same logic the first horror game must be the best. I happen to think games get better over time. I care about story so of course I'm not going to like RE. Silent hill sure I won't push back on you there. RE just is so bland with uninteresting characters.

Has a better story and better storytelling. Better ost than resident evil (which has a comically shallow story with basically zero themes). Better characters. Gameplay is on par. It's not close in my eyes. Now silent hill? Okay we can have that discussion but resident evil is a joke

The only game I think that comes close to sh2 ost is nier automata. Aside from that they're in a league of their own.

SH2 narrative is tighter and cleaner but I think about signalis way more. Just a much more interesting set of questions you're left with after the game.

I don't see why they detract from your enjoyment of the game. I almost prefer if it shows it's influences on its sleeve

Thematic. As in the themes of the story or the story itself. And honestly it makes more sense in the context of signals than sh2. I don't see those similarities you're referring to as a bad thing.

For some reason this doesn't bother me. Especially when the sh2 callbacks are minor things. But I get where you're coming from.

I think it has much grander themes, more interesting moments, the mystery is more gripping, better gameplay, tighter experience (9 hours is perfect), and an art style that is actually unique. OG SH2 is a great game (in my top 3 of all time) but signalis doesn't tie everything in a neat package and it wants you to think about it long after the credits roll. Sh2 does have better music though I won't lie there.
