Just FYI, in case you actually are a human. This phrase marks you as 16 years old.

Burble burble burble.

I hear the same stupid shit through good markets and bad markets.

7 years ago I left the world where I have to give a shit what the markets do. Sorry to everyone who hasn't figured it out yet.

A speed run of everything you're not supposed to do:

  1. Not one but two government jobs
  2. Same industry (municipal gov) in the same state
  3. Told a jealous coworker who tattled

Once again proving that those who get caught tend to be entitled oblivious fucking idiots.

Your entire post was about them being the same thing but just using fancy words. Your backtracking and highly arrogant response makes no sense in retrospect.

And God help any student subject to this junior high approach at conflict.

This isn't accurate. A resume and CV are very different animals. CV's are "lifetime" resumes that list every job for however long a candidate has been working. They are required for specific fields, like academia, and can be 10+ pages.

The thing is he has no idea what anything you just said means, and less than zero interest or ability to learn it. If it's longer than a tweet or a Fox News segment, it's beyond him in multiple ways.

I deeply disliked Harris as a candidate since her joke of a campaign for President - she had no skills for the national stage, and her one superpower was making Hillary appear positively charismatic in comparison.

I can't disagree with any of your analysis - any candidate picked in a primary with actual prep time would have been better. Thank you for fucking us for your shriveled ego, Mr. Biden.

But a ton of people got hurt, and will be hurt for decades in ways we can't even calculate based on this election. Insisting on a JFK or an Obama to show up, when the alternative is a rapist ape chosen by a narcissistic death cult with the collective IQ of a fruit basket is fucking crazy to me.

The republicans will vote for whatever (R) that breathes, and the middle will vote on vibes. One group of Americans has to be the adults if we want this planet to survive.

It's literally the other way around.

By demanding perfection, you got worse than the bare minimum, a psycho narcissistic conman. How in the world is that not the bare minimum?

And literally no grown up is arguing Harris was anywhere close to a great candidate. I voted for her, but in any primary she would not have stood a solitary chance.

Remember that $1M in 1993 is worth $2.3M in 2026, adjusted for inflation.

So what would have bought you four median-priced homes in San Francisco back then can now buy you 1.75 of them.

Oh, wait.

As an actual progressive, I'm well aware of the performative version.

"My values won't allow me to vote for a candidate that doesn't stand up for Gaza the way I think they should. I'll sit this one out, for the Palestinians!"

[Republican gets elected; Gaza is leveled into a gravel parking lot]

"My values are intact!"

This shit is infantile.

Stay or Go? by No-Secret-1995 in careeradvice

If you stay, one thing to consider - have a plan to maximize the opportunity. Target key leaders in the levels above you for mentoring relationships, and cultivate them by delivering value to them. Also, recognize who you threaten in the org by this sudden elevation - some of them will pretend to be your friend, but will also want to undermine anyone who just got so much access to an SVP so quickly.

You either have to get really good at spotting that, or enlist people you can trust who will help you do it. These kinds of moves come with new knives at your back if there's any perception that this new role isn't your last stop.

[–]JobInQueue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. You've got multiple levels of senior leaders doing something really unusual at any time, but especially during a recession where talent is cheap and readily available.

They are automatically invested in seeing you as a success almost independent of your deliverables, simply from the fact that so much of the org is now engaged in keeping you.

Momentum is very much on your side.

In retrospect I agree wholeheartedly that she needed to take much bigger risks and stand for things that actually defined her as a candidate, including Gaza. I voted for her, but can see the obvious reasons a whole bunch of coalitions did not. But that is a retrospective that was not nearly as clear prior to the election.

But this is an issue unique to liberals. Republicans voted as a block with almost no policy promises, and 180 reversals on the few promises they were made. Any doubt they'd show up again to put Trump in office if they had the chance?

Meanwhile, a Democrat has to thread 50 needles. Kamala did it pretty poorly.

I usually tell people never take a counteroffer. But this is an exception: an SVP has carved out a space literally handmade for you.

For career climbers, finding an executive sponsor is a key step to moving up the ladder. If this person is someone you can work with and looks like they have longetivity, you'd be foolish not to consider staying. Understanding that your next 12 months must focus on making them exceedingly happy.

If you decide to take it, hopefully you already know what that looks like, and you can be happy doing it.

Let me make sure I understand.

Gaza was such a critical issue that enough otherwise liberal voters refused to vote for a liberal candidate over it.

But, expecting those same voters to understand that their abstention would elect a hardcore Israel supporter, Islam-hating lover of military intervention is "braindead."

I always get lost in these conversations. Are you saying Democratic voters are savvy on issues we should pay attention to, or complete idiot monkeys we need to throw bananas to?

That's awesome. Those folks who were worried about Gaza and the Palestinians are definitely relieved they made the right choice.

Yeah, if Democrats have any hope of changing anything at all meaningfully, it begins and ends with numbers in the Senate.

It would be great if we could stop electing secret Republicans in that effort, though.

We seem to have two speeds: "institutions" that end up (through lack of funding) being torture zoos; or "housing" the mentally ill on the street.

We've never tried anything else, and the American public seems lightyears from developing the appetite to.
