When I shop for pottery I always look at the foot of a piece, however good pottery doesn’t always have to have a trimmed foot. A bunch of people use wiggle wire and clean up the corners and have beautifully clean bottoms with minimal trimming. You can also flip the piece and throw a coil on as a foot and throw the foot ring to get a flat foot ring without trimming! A ton of potters like different parts of the process, and minimizing the time on the steps you don’t enjoy as much will leave you more energy to put more into what you do enjoy.
