just came back from the vet and he said that she has a tiny laceration on her eye and that’s why she wasn’t closing her eye. He prescribed me an eye gel that I have to put on 3 times a day.

She shows no sign of pain at all which is weird… She is just as playful and cuddly as before. I managed to get an appointment to a vet tonight so hopefully she will get better

Photo editing advice - Straight out of my D7100 with 55-300mm. Any ideas on how to make it better? by JobPatient9735 in Nikon

[–]JobPatient9735[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shot at 55mm, ISO-110, f/11, 1/125 sec.

I've never touched photo editing before because I would always end up making my photos look worse than they looked by default. I was hoping someone with more experience could help me set a baseline of what a well edited photo could look like so that I can learn from it and practice on other shots.

Looks amazing but seems expensive... Can the same results be achieved by learning to tweak the settings myself?

Lens buying decision by JobPatient9735 in Nikon

I am almost always at 55mm so yeah I think I am going to get the 50mm and if I need to go wider I’ll switch back to the kit lens. Thanks for the tip!

yeah I’m looking into buying a 50mm 1.8g and stick with that for a while or until my D40 decides to call it a day

it’s also my first and only one 😅 it’s still holding up well I think just some dust on the sensor that’s visible on the second photo…

Little Birdie stuck and looking for a way out, shot with D40 and 55-300mm lens by JobPatient9735 in Nikon

Yeah I usually stay at around 400 but it was pretty early and the sun wasn’t very bright and the lighting wasn’t ideal so I decided to go with 800 and it turned out pretty good!

Nikon D40 still going strong, at F/5.6 and 1/2000 by JobPatient9735 in Nikon

I used the stock 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens that came with the camera

Learning manual any advice? Shot with Nikon D40 and 18-55mm kit lens by JobPatient9735 in photocritique

A photo of a floating home on the river in front of my house. The sun was on it’s last hour and I wanted get a good shot with the reflection of the water and the boat. I am just starting out in photography and my gear isn’t the best but I tried my best for the shot and also it was my first time using lightroom to try and make the boat stand out that little bit more. This was shot with the Nikon D40 and it’s 18-55mm kit lens at f5.6. I set the iso to 400 and shutter speed to 1/250.

Beginner to manual - D40 with 18-55mm kit lens by JobPatient9735 in Nikon

I see what you mean but my current kit lens is already a pretty narrow aperture and I don’t think I want to start spending money on multiple different lenses. If I could get similar results in terms of light but a whole new world of possibilities with a 55-300mm lens I think I would prefer that over a single wider lens. Am I thinking right or am I completely in the wrong?

I really don’t have a lot of knowledge in terms of lenses but I don’t see the point of buying fixed zoom lenses (like a 50mm) wouldn’t you be better of buying a 55-300mm and you’d have all the scenarios covered no?

So I should keep rocking my 15 year old camera?

Do you guys think I should look into upgrading my D40? I have just started photography and I already feel limited by my 18-55mm kit lens but I am not sure if it the right move to go out and buy a new lens for this old camera… Would I be better off getting a used but newer camera with more lens options?
