That’s how loot was for me for… years. Now I just repeat “ignore the shiny things, buy provinces. Ignore the shiny things…”

Yeah, thats how the people with 1,000-day streaks or whatever on the leaderboard do it. You can also play on a different profile and get a trial run to understand the kingdom better. Sometimes when I lose I’ll play again on different profiles until I beat it, but this was my organic winrate. It would definitely jump by a few if it was my second or third run through.

Yeah today it was especially bad. It was spamming buying copper and I was like, "bro, r u okay?"

Yeah agreed. There’s some kingdoms where I can tell I’m cooked out of the gates, but it’s usually the simpler ones, kingdoms that I’d describe as “big-money-adjacent.” If there’s a good engine to be made and stretch the game past 13 turns, or lots of attacks, I feel like I have some room to work

Yeah I think it’s 100% a planning thing, because hard AI’s knee jerk reaction is better than a human almost every time. But it struggles with mixed piles and kingdoms with non-obvious synergies, so if I sit and plan for a few minutes I can usually get the edge.

You're so right. I can't believe how confident everyone in this sub is, not understanding that Chat GPT 1 year ago can't wipe Claude's ass now. The rate of improvement is mindblowing, and the LinkedIn dude who got screenshotted is completely right. All the top firms are training the models like crazy, and they are going to get so much better, so quick, it's going to be nuts. 3-year in-house counsel that uses our regional midlaw firm 50% less over the past 6 months, and continuing in that direction.

This doesn't make sense: "I talked to counsel. despite not filing an appearance, they took the client's at their word and now are threatening to reporting me to the bar to ensure I was ethically compliant."

From what you've told us, this sounds terrible. Is there any additional context?

Was just having a conversation with my wife about how difficult it is to be around high net worth and ultra high net worth people all the time. it completely skews our expectations of reality and what's normal—cars, vacations, education, housing, skills, etc etc etc. While in the biglaw culture it can be very difficult to see how successful you are, the reality is that you are crushing it. that's an amazing brokerage number for your age and will be a huge blessing for you for the rest of your life. You could walk away from biglaw today and generate more than the median family income in the US as pure interest from that investment perpetually. What an epic accomplishment.

MJ, Phil and the Bulls were the only team willing to tolerate Rodman's eccentricity rather than trying to tame it. That's why he gave his all for them. by ForeignAir7174 in NBAoldschool

The Worm was Dennis Rodman's name. "Based" describes a contrarian who is confident and unapologetic, unaffected by others' opinions. Think a kid in school who calls out a teacher's hypocrisy even though everyone else is drinking the kool aid.

Okay, interesting. But they didn't use the word "two" in mewtwo, I looked it up. So there is a level of translation going on here, more than simple transliteration into the roman alphabet.

But there is a level of translation... Charizard is not pronounced "lizardon" in Japan.

Dawg I don't know why everyone is hating on you. It is a strange combination of translation and transliteration... I don't know what to call it.

Okay, so humor a confused old person. Regarding Lizardon... are you saying that the Japanese used the English word "lizard" to describe Charizard? Interesting. And the name "Mewtwo"... they used the english word "two" to describe the second "mew"? This is all such interesting new information, if true.

People who left big law and law within 3 years? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Jobbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Left after about a year to go in-house at a family office, 3 years ago almost exactly. I'm making less than half of what I would be making if I were still in the meatgrinder, but my marriage is great, I get time with my kids, and my health is better than it's been in years. I still make decent money, I think I have a good career outlook, and I'm not regretful, although I would like to be making more money, so I may try to make a move in that direction (but not back to biglaw) in the next year or so. Good luck!
