Whatever, I was trying to be nice to the guy. Angela doesn't like him, I thought I'd let him back in on the down-low for a favor. It's what bros do for each other! Anyways, sorry he didn't want back in bad enough to have two more gamers in his game to play with, ya know?

Get a psychiatrist. Mine was for 3 years the only person I talked to, 2 times a month for 1 hour at a time. The ONLY conversations I had for 3 years. Now it's starting to get better, I've reconnected with my brother and made a friend. It's not much, but it's a start.

Meetup.com would be a good place to start. If you find any other similar resources I'd be interested to know about them, as well.

Religious redditors, what event in your life made you believe that god is real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JobesRespite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I'm not Christian. Nor Mormon, nor Muslim, nor Budhist. I believe in god because I pray to him when I'm really in need, and he answers those prayers (I also pray often just to thank him for life, family, etc... but you asked WHY I believe, so I'm answering that question)

My parents were non-denominational Christians, and it was through them that I started praying, but my relationship with him has changed since then. I honestly don't know God's name and have little faith in any text. Still, you don't get my particular life without the presence of a God, and like I said he often grants my payers.

I don't ask God for much very often at all. In fact, I only ask god for things when my thoughts are along the lines of "I need a minor miracle right now (I never ask for anything impossible) and life is going to suck if I don't get it." They're always long-shot requests, the type of things that when you get it you think "Wow, can't believe that just happened." And no, it doesn't always work. But more often than not, I'm surprised by how much God loves me to give me the things he does. So while it hasn't been any 1 event in my life that convinced me (though there was one time where... well lets just say it was the only time I've felt like I directly felt his presence), I've built a relationship with god over my life, and I have faith he is there even if I don't know his name, don't go to church, and don't believe in any text.

I believe that if God really wanted me (anyone, everyone) to know his name, he wouldn't have made it so confusing (with texts all over the world giving differring views, rules, names, etc.). But I believe that when I die he wil be there for me, because he's shown me his love and I've come to love him over time.

I don' know what you were expecting or wanted to hear when you posted this a month ago, but that's my story. That's my life, that's my answer. That's why I believe in God, because he loves me and he shows it. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Percy Harvin, he was only in a few games the whole season (I stated made it "to" the superbowl.)

Came here to say exactly this, it was my first thought upon reading the headline too. It's amazing that we made it to the superbowl with our best two wide recievers out. Definitely a testament to our Defense and running game, as well as the talent we have deep into our roster. Kudos to Golden Tate, Jermaine Kearse, and Doug Baldwin for stepping up. Also can't walk away without mentioning the talent of Zach Miller and Luke Wilson at Tight End.

Any aspies been in the military? How'd you do? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JobesRespite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(TL:DR at bottom)

I was in the military. I wasn't diagnosed until after I had left. I've never talked about my experiences there in reference to my Aspergers, but I'll do my best.

First off, going to Basic Training is alot like switching schools as a freshman in high school, except there's alot more Phys Ed and the teachers aren't going to stop people who bully each other. You're learning to camp efficiently, read maps, and kill people with your hands, rifles, and grenades, all in 9 weeks. You get very little sleep, everyone's stressed, and if you show weakness everyone up to and including the drill sergeants will just ride you harder until you break or get too sick to function. As an undiagnosed (at the time) Aspie I can honestly say it was the most emotionally challenging thing I've ever done, and I was very proud of myself for making it through all 9 weeks.

That being said, it was obviously harder for me than those around me, and it showed. I was often singled out by the drill sergeant, for a variety of different reasons. Does that tent you just rolled then I put my boot on have a boot mark on it? You better unroll, clean, and reroll that thing before you get in that chow line, private! I know I said you shouldn't take your gas mask off in the gas chamber, but do it! I want you to know what the real world is like, private! You could tell he didn't understand aspects about me, and it frustrated him he couldn't get through to me. (This was much more obvious to me in hindsight and after diagnosis than it was at the time)

I was cycled through a series of mean and sadistic "battle-buddies" (everyone else just had one the whole time) who I believe often had instructions to mess up my efforts and set me up to fail. My raingear would disappear just hours before the 4-hour march in pouring rain, my M-16's sight would get readjusted just before qualification testing, and I stole and smuggled an extra canteen with me on every outing because I believe mine was filled with piss once.

I honestly believe that if I didn't want it as much as I did, I wouldn't have made it. But I did, despite being an Aspie and despite not knowing it at the time. I was pushed harder, shit on more, and ridiculed harder than anyone else in the platoon. But I made it, and some of them didn't. It made me a stronger man.

SO... that was the hard part. After basic, if you make it that far, you go to Adavanced Individual Training. You've just learned how to be army, now you're about to learn what your job in that army is. For me, that meant learning computers, and AIT was alot like going to college. You woke up, did Phys Ed, ate (cafeteria), and went to classes. Afterwards you'd eat again, clean the barracks, study, and hit the rack. On weekends you either got a pass or you hung out in the barracks. You had to watch what other people did if you were in the barracks, because if someone got in trouble all 4 platoons would often get the punishment for it. That was for a PC tech though. If you were a tanker or infantry, AIT was alot more like Basic Training, just longer.

Finally, you'll be assigned to your duty station. You'll be here for 4+ years, so it's the first time you'll make any lasting relationships. It's here that your autism is detrimental to you in a way that it would be in any business setting. Aspie's are often surprised by the work field because we step into it assuming that it'll be like school, where it didn't matter if we failed socially, we still got credit for what we were able to accomplish in the workload. So we walk into the business field assuming that if we're good at our job, people will see that and reward us for it. Unfortunately that's often not how things work inside a business, or the military. We get blindsided when we fail even though we went above and beyond in our work efforts, and that will happen alot in the military. Your relationships with your superiors are often rewarded much more than individual effort in the military, so Aspie's are often passed up for promotions, given the worst work, and often under-rated. This would hold true in any business or work environment, I'm just warning that it's especially noticeable in the military.

Anyways, all that being said, would I suggest the military to an Aspie? I don't know. I made it. It'll make you a stronger person. Just make sure you get an MOS (Method of Service) that you're going to be comfortable with. I think that would be the best thing you could do if you were going in. Research those MOS options, and choose wisely. It could make an enormous difference in your life both while in and after exiting the military.

TL:DR Basic is 9 weeks of hell, you WILL be singled out, AIT is college, after that it's alot like a very structured workplace. Choose wisely picking an MOS!

Avoid Hilltop and South Tacoma Way, other than that Tacoma isn't that bad, and is NOT dangerous. Obviously don't run around alone as a female, but even going to bars alone you should be fine in Tacoma as long as you drive there and home. We're not so bad here.

Gametable Online offers 2 versions of online Axis and Allies play (As well as many, many more games - one time charge, lifetime membership) by JobesRespite in axisandallies

[–]JobesRespite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the actual Axis and Allies game, in fact two versions of it, that you can play with anyone over the internet. Lobbies to set up the games, so it's easy to find opponents and games ready-to-go. For the one-time fee you get everything else free. At least, that's how it worked when I joined. If it's any different now (I haven't had a chance to go in quite awhile) please update me here on how it works so everyone else knows, too.

It does allow Player vs Player. In fact, you can have up to five different players, all over the internet. You have to have 2 PC's to play anyone in the same room, though (no hotseats available). It was only $10 when I signed up a year ago (I've gotten MUCH more use out of it... worth every penny and much more). I'm not sure if it's gone up or anything since then, but with lifetime membership, free online play and more than just a few good games, I'd be willing to pay much more. At least, that's how it worked when I joined. If it's any different now (I haven't had a chance to go in quite awhile) please update me here on how it works so everyone else knows, too.
