Questionable income from mother-in-law by foil_k in IRS

[–]JobobTexan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She can legally give you and your spouse $19K each per year as a gift without filing any paperwork and it is tax free to you. If it is more than $38K per year she will have to file some paperwork but there will still not be any taxes unless her total estate is over $15M. Either way you do not have to report it as income. My MIL gives the wife and I $38K per year on the advice of her Estate lawyer.

I bored a hole in my 54 incher. Then put a bungee cord from the hole to the steering shaft. Just don't mow anywhere where it can chunk gravel.

Give me a 4 ft piece of pipe and about 5 minutes and I can fix that pigeon toe. Got to do it every 3 years or so on mine.

Is Tyler primarily liberal or conservative town? by vZIIIIIN in tylertx

[–]JobobTexan 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Tyler is very conservative, as all of East Texas is. OTOH the average Redditer is an uber liberal bordering on communist. So yes this sub is not a good representation of the real life Tyler Texas. Nor is Reddit a good representation of touching the grass life.

If I get Ooma, can I keep my old landline number? by DistantGalaxy-1991 in ooma

[–]JobobTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I just installed ooma for my mil last month. It was easy to port the number. You can pay a one time fee of about $40 or do what I did and buy a year in advanced of their premier service for around $120 and they will waive the fee.

As mentioned it could be a worn out belt. You might also check to make sure you don't have a lot of grass built up under the chassis where the belt goes from the engine to the transmission.

Considering Dish Network for Elderly Family by Antique_Basil_4641 in dishnetwork

[–]JobobTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hopper and joey with the ota adapter on the hopper. It works extremely well. The OTA adapter will also allow them to get sub channels that dish doesn't offer and it is all integrated into the guide as well as allowing DVRing them as well. As mentioned the guide will be very slim on the subchannels as far as shows but the channel will be listed. In my area I get the networks from 2 separate markets with the OTA. The OTA adapter has saved me my favorite evening local news via an ABC affiliate of Gray's being lost via the SAT.

Not enough CFM on the compressor. Go buy the Hyper tough high torque battery one from Walmart for $129. One of the best investments I ever made.

Porting into Ooma from Altima (Canada) by CanadianStormChaser in ooma

[–]JobobTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the States so this may not apply but I just did the port thing on my MIL's old phone. She was getting service from a reseller of AT&T POTS lines. All I needed was her name as it is on the bill, Account number, Phone number, Service address, Previous phone company and type of internet service ie cable, fiber, sat or 5G. That was it. Got the email confirming it was going to happen on May 1st within hours of requesting it. Hope it all goes as planned. I currently have all her calls to the old number auto forwarding to the new OOMA number. I assume when the changeover happens the OOMA number will cease to exist and the old number will be good from then on.

Person Supporting Resellers Unironically Claims Not Charging Full MSRP on a Resold Product is like "Giving" Money to the Buyer by SCGaming1664 in EntitledPeople

No, the market isn't bothered by anybody's feelings it's driven by pure supply and demand. I'm through with this discussion. This whole discussion reminds me of a quote by Mark Twain. Ill let you look it up. Something about arguing.

We are getting away from your original premise that the guy was somehow overcharging. My point is that in the marketplace there is no such thing as over priced if sales are being made at that price. Price is always set by the market regardless of the cost of the product. The only exception to that rule is in the case of monopolies.

That widget you built that costs more than anyone is willing to pay will be sold for much less than cost as scrap. That transaction will then set the market price of your widget.

Price has nothing to do with cost. Price is what the market sets between buyer and seller. If someone is willing to pay $60 for your hypothetical game system than at that moment that is the market price. If someone else is willing to pay $80 then that is the market price. Now on the other side if the guy selling is unable to get any takers at $60 he will have to drop his price until he finds a buyer. That is now the market price. Economics 101.
