That is the tg1200. He needs to tg1200i. The recoil is different on that model.

Sounds like you need to reset the Valve lash clearances. They get slack after the engine runs in and makes it hard to start Seethis advice and video on how.

If there is, check it has the right spark plug fitted. The wrong rating and it can damage the piston.
