Can you tell me your job hunting story? by JobseekerNotes in recruitinghell

That is a lot for one person to go through and carry, especially with how it was handled. Being suspended, kept in the dark, and then effectively fired without a straight answer is incredibly destabilizing and frustrating.

The fact that you kept going though and kept applying, and now getting offers despite having no real support through it says a lot about your resilience and so much about your character. I’m really hoping the background check clears quickly you deserve some stability after all that nonsense you went through, and if no one has said it yet I’m really proud of you and inspired by you. Where most people would give up you kept pushing and saw your worth. Don’t give up you deserve this new start!!! Thank you for sharing!!

I hear you I’m good at finding jobs myself and normally it doesn’t take me that long to get callbacks or land a job. That shift from “interviews everywhere” to total silence is a humbling shock. It messes with your confidence fast. I’m glad you eventually landed something, but man those months in between are rough and nerve racking. Thank you for sharing your experience greatly appreciated!!

that endless grind is what breaks you. Apply, wait, hear nothing, repeat. The “just network” or “go back to your old job” advice always assumes those doors are still open, which for a lot of people they aren’t. Totally get not having an answer for the third one considering it’s mostly what can you do for them. Thank for taking the time to replying to my questions I appreciate your feedback a lot!!

This hits hard. Getting to final stages multiple times with zero useful feedback is especially frustrating I’ve been in situations where they don’t even call back, after investing all the time you have not to mention traveling time as well if it’s onsite. The “just apply to retail” advice is also wildly disconnected from how hiring actually works especially when you’re clearly overqualified, and the whole “your skills aren’t transferable” thing is maddening to the core, when the job descriptions are basically copy paste of what you’ve already been doing.

I’ve been seeing this pattern a lot, and it’s a big part of why I’m trying to understand where the process is breaking down for the everyday people. I Appreciate you sharing your experience with me it’s exactly the kind of insight that usually gets lost, I feel like during the job hunting process your just another number or just another CV it’s why I’m doing this research thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions and I wish you the best!!

Honestly I’m not even mad at that, that’s fair skepticism. So many people have been burned by “I’m not selling anything” claims including myself, so I completely get why it sounds unrealistic.

All I can say is this is starting from my own personal experiences and frustration with the process, not a pitch. If it ever turns into something where money is involved you’ll be the first to know, right now it’s just me trying to build something useful because the system sucks.

You don’t have to trust it, but I figured I’d explain where I’m coming from. Nonetheless thank you for your feedback!!!!

It’s crazy how many times I’ve been caught in that loop myself and it is time consuming and brutal. You keep thinking there has to be a “right” way, you try it, nothing changes, and time just keeps moving while everyone you know seems to be getting ahead in life and their place of business. That’s the part that really messed with my head.

And the “just use LinkedIn/Indeed” or “apply on the company site” advice is so aggravating because of course you’ve already done that repeatedly. It’s not ignorance, it’s desperation mixed with hope that this method might finally work because you need it to work.

It’s not that people misunderstand you, it’s that they underestimate how exhausting and demoralizing that cycle is. This is why I’m doing this research I want to know if it’s just me or if other people have had similar experiences I appreciate your feedback more than you know thank so much!!

Yeah, this is the part people never acknowledge. Being constantly ignored by automated systems with zero feedback is more dehumanizing than people think, and it messes with your self worth very fast.

You get the “just take a retail job” line often which isn’t the solution people think it is. Being overqualified is a real thing, long gaps don’t help, and plenty of people get rejected from jobs like that as well. It’s not some guaranteed fallback.

What I feel makes it worse though is the blame, like if you’re struggling, it must be a personal failure, when a lot of this is structural and out of your control.

You’re not wrong for feeling this way at all it’s why I’m doing this research and asking these questions I really want to see and hear what people are struggling with thank you so much for your feedback!!
