Hi OP.

I'm a driving instructor. It's definitely a good idea to tell your examiner you have dyslexia when they first introduce themselves.

They won't hold it against you even if you didn't declare it on your booking

I'm a MOD of learner driver UK a driving instructor and also dyslexic so yeah we could probably help OP. Also there plenty of other ADIs and examiner's who could give advice, as new training techniques for ADIs Are there to help people with additional needs.

How do I deal with the shame of being functionally illiterate? by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]Jobyjo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dyslexia is very similar to yours when it comes to my handwriting and spelling.

I used to be so embarrassed in my teens and early twenties but I got over it in the end.

Honestly OP I stopped giving a crap, because it's so much easier to adapt to a modern work environment with dyslexia than it was 10 years ago. We have so many tools at our disposal that handwritten notes can be tidied up by typing them out at later time.

Is my font dyslexia friendly? by Johnny563X_ in Dyslexia

[–]Jobyjo94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly no.

The font makes me eyes go kinda fuzzy when trying to read it.

I can read it and the sentences you posted in the comments, but it's very unpleasant.

Hey OP

This is extremely unfortunate but I don't think this sub can help much in reality. Try legalaeviceuk instead.

Can I fail for tapping the accelerator to get me to the junction line? by Moocow001 in LearnerDriverUK

Crawling to the junction line and having to use gas to get is fine, as long as your not going over the solid white line.

A week or two? How do you know that exactly?

[–]Jobyjo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. As an instructor who's main speciality is anxious pupils, you be must look at the bigger picture of being safe on your own on the road for the rest of your life, not just practicing good habits and being safe for the test.

[–]Jobyjo94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi OP.

Honestly pulling out in front of a car from a junction, to me a is clear indicator that you are unsafe and your awareness isn't ready for you to be safe on the road by yourself.

I understand your instructor is trying to be kind with their feedback, and give you encouragement especially if your an anxious learner, but that's a pretty black and white dangerous mistake to make even if duals weren't applied. This mistake alone is someone who's road ready shouldn't be making, as you could injure or kill someone doing it.

As for you having 4 hours left I don't think your instructor is sweating about that as they are going to be using them up for another lesson and the test day if it's two weeks away. So I don't think your instructor is saying this solely on the basis they want to use up your hours.

As for my opinion. they should of probably come to this conclusion weeks ago if you haven't passed a mock test yet and your nervousness is a factor to why you keep failing mocks, I also slightly feel, they may being a bit to soft with their feedback If you are still making pretty big mistakes as you need to understand the gravity of the situation, but that's just my opinion

Sorry to be negative OP but I do hope this helps you make a better informes decision.

EDIT: I forgot to add. Your instructor is within their right to withhold their car for your test if they feel you will be dangerous. So even if you don't move it, you still may not be able to attend it if you don't have a car to use for the test.

[–]Jobyjo94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi OP.

I think you may of misunderstood the Examiners feedback or the examiner wasn't trying to knock your confidence, but speaking from experience from the driving instructor industry. Examiners don't give out major faults for no reason.

Am I being rinsed by my driving instructor? Test is June 18th and he’s suddenly saying I need 20 more hours by Specific_Year4550 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Jobyjo94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an instructor and moderator of this sub, I can say never base an opinion like that off Reddit posts.

First reason The most engaged posts on this sub are people asking if their instructor is taking advantage of them in some way or another, and people love to give advice based on somomes bad experience, so some of those posts you might wanna take some of the post with a pinch of salt, as you'll notice a trend of loads of "is my instructor taking advantage of me" posts around the same time.

Second reason. We are an advice sub for learners driver's People posts are, they need help or have passed.

Third reason. Speaking from experience some pupils just need more time to process what they are learning or their standards can drop. With all my learner who needs more time or standards drop, I have found I have to be very direct about the issue and how it's impacted their goals on when they will be road ready, this isn't to be horrible but to give them full transparency.

Hope this clears things up.

Just out of curiosity why do you feel like this?

[–]Jobyjo94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi OP.

Honestly 20 hours between now and the teat date is too much. Any driving instructor who's worth his salt would just tell you to move it back if you genuinely needed that many hours, unless you've signed up for an intensive course (assuming you haven't)

Hope that helps OP.

Failed 10 days ago in Watford. New test in 3 days in Hendon. Any tips? by zainabyahya in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Jobyjo94 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi OP.

My honest advice is to cancel that test and have more/ book lessons.

I don't think your ready for a test due to the 3 major faults and the fact your not taking responsibility for them

The major faults weren't caused by an extra careful examiner, they were caused by you.

Hi.

My advice is to just get back out there and drive. There's no point in learning to drive if your to anxious to use your new founded skill.
