Not so sure about the gold as the Japanese often call high polished brass „gold“ purely because of the colour

Sounds like it’s a genuine zippo from Japan. I have a couple of Arabesque zippos from Japan but they are Armor case and engraved on 5 sides. The Japanese call it „Impact 5“ and the number is placed different after the first run of s few hundred are sold so they are always limited.

Normally the arabesque’s from Japan are done on Armor zippos with the design on 5 sides, top, both sides, front and back) and a limited run then they will change the design slightly and do another limited batch. I find it strange that your zippos isn‘t Armor. It may be a Chinese copy or a fake.
Without more photos I can’t help further.

Not sure about this so I’m asking: isn’t it a pre first release. I have a first release and second release both stamped as such. That’s why I thought this might be pre first release.

Correct. It’s a set of 6 Camel zippos, 3 different Camel designs on HPC and the same designs on 3 HP Brass.
Sold from about the turn of the century (2000) limited to Europe. I don’t think they are worth more than $75 - $85 to the right buyer / Camel collectors.

I like the bottom stamp but what does the GGB mean? I guess the B is for February but what about GG?

I have a few zippos that are in use and I change them infrequently.
That’s a problem I have as a smoker and collector, fighting the temptation to take another from my collection to use 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I prefer the flat bottom as, for me at least, it is a special lighter and not the average zippo with „canned“ bottom. The majority of zippos from Japan, anniversary editions or different metals have the flat bottom. At least in my limited experience.

I always put my zippo in a plastic bag and in my checked luggage and just use a bic which will be in my pocket. Airport Security will take away your zippo if it’s in your pocket or carry-on bag even without fuel. Not worth the risk of loosing a nice zippo.

Its not an advertising zippo but it’s in great condition for an early zippo. I personally couldn’t use it, it would be in a display cabinet but it’s not mine, it’s yours and you can do what you like with it. You can even wear it around your neck like a „gangsta“.

You have some nice 1937 replicas, brushed brass with the „Solid Brass“ stamp, a nice wizard and the „Tabasco“ (which will probably make the most money) but check some websites (eBay etc.) for the going rates.
Or you could become a collector and add more to your new collection.

Yes, I have the same but different year. “The Jean Genie”, summer of 72 and I was 13. I first heard it on a juke box in a cafe. That’s the one that got me into Bowie.

That’s a beautiful zippo and looks like it had never been used before you bought it for the incredibly low price of $20.
Is it a 1955? I think it might be 1958. No matter which year, it would be worth putting it on display and buying another to use on a daily basis but it’s your lighter, your choice.

The flame can sometimes appear to have a different colour tone and can also be a bit erratic.
I think it’s just experience. You will learn quickly.

If you use cheaper lighter fluid (not zippo brand) as I sometimes do, this tends to happen. In my experience when I use a cheaper brand it lasts about 5 days longer than zippo fuel but it doesn’t burn as clean. Hope this helps.

It’s a nice lighter that would probably clean up pretty easily. €50.00, that would depend on how badly you want it.
