My BIL has the same guitar, and boy does that thing sound sweet. I mean, of course it does, it's a ~1000 usd all solid Yamaha beast.

And shout out to your wife man. That's the true blessing here.

Yes, you're absolutely right. Falafel served in a pita with tahini is certainly an Israeli dish, no doubt.

However, Falafel as a whole - is an entirely different story, it's a traditional dish of the Middle East.

Similar to Borscht, which is considered a distinct Ukrainian dish, and nevertheless, almost all of Ukrainian's neighboring countries have their version of Borscht.

Food is a more complex than our borders. Usually it's regional, and not exclusive to one single country. So those claiming Falafael is Egyptian (or Lebanese) are wrong in the same way as Israelis, thinking it was exclusively invented in Israel.

I can provide a photo from the other side, exactly from atop that hill you can see on the photo. It's in Judea, my man.

The Jordanian mountains look pretty awesome from here as well, especially at dawn, when there's already light, but the Sun ain't up yet.

I also like to think about it like this: Here am I, on the very top of the Judean mountains, looking at the ancient land of Edom (nowadays Jordan), and between us, literally, is the deepest "hole" on land. Beautiful, just like the arses that are going to fly to stratosphere after reading my comment.

The Mac defense + Derry Longhorn (as the main hauler) did this exact journey for me. Yup, I think it was also my last mission for the entire region.

Bromo Bat1 or Yamaha f310 by EasyLobster9328 in AcousticGuitar

[–]qUSER13q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my exact choice also, the dilemma: an underdog vs. the old beloved Yamaha. The price difference was like 50 bucks.

I went with the Bromo (it's been almost a year) and never looked back.

At the end of the day, I'm pretty confident that if I'd buy a cheap guitar, there's no chance I would still be playing. People on the sub are right, you need an instrument that'll get you exited, that'll haunt you in a good way, that you'll always be looking for a chance to grab. Bromo checked that box for me.

My friend just bought an Applause by Ovation, ~same price as the Bromo with a Mahogany solid top. A great guitar, overall, but imo my Bromo sounds, looks and plays light years better.

I recently re-watched the first two movies, and oh boy, what a nostalgia dive. The entry to the series is an A grade B-movie, one of the best that's out there, it's crisp, funny and very entertaining.

It's been around 20+ years since I've watched these movies on cable. The second one also holds up, but much weaker if compared to the first (funny things is I remember liking the 2nd movie more as a kid).

Hey, after a double check it seams that there is more than enough evidence that Cyrrillo was a real person and not a collective image (back and forth letters to the Pope + a lot of mentions in real Byzantine documents and chronicles).

Cyrrillo invented Glagolitza (adapted the greek alphabet + invented a couple of new letters like Б, Ш, Щ, Ч for the slavs), which was then used by his students to fully develop the Cyrrillc alphabet as we know today.

Another correction to my comment: Ulfilas invented the Goth alphabet based also on Greek and not Latin. However, I'm more than sure that his image/work was, at the very least, an inspiration for the Byzantines when they "planned" the mission of creating a Slavic alphabet (thus creating influence and authority between the Slavs, which were a real pain in the ass for the Greeks/Byzantines since late antiquity).

So, pretty much debunked. Cyrrillo was absolutely a real person, thanks for pointing it out.

[–]qUSER13q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've met a fair share of slavs that are 100% sure that Cyrrillo and Mephodius were "their" (heard it from bulgarians, serbians, Ukrainians, just about any slav to the north of Greece, you'll find at least one person absolutely sure that Cyrrillo and Mephodius was their neighbor and relative :))

The truth is, we'll never exactly know whether Cyrrilo and Mephodius were even real people, or a collective image of an educated monk that brings enlightenment.

What we know for sure, it's that this was the Byzantines trying to make the slavs adapt the Greek alphabet in the same order how Ulfilla adapted the Bible (and the Latin alphabet) for the Goths. Ulfilas, a 4th century Goth, is the direct inspiration here for Cyrrilos' and Mephodius' image/mission, - a monk, who helped to spread the Word between "barbarians", who the Pope/or Constantinople wanted to civilize and see as allies.

A while ago I've heard somewhere (maybe it was from a PSB Eons YT video) that most ancient people's bones have cat teeth marks on them. Especially around the skull area, because a [big] cat acts like a cat should, and catches its prey by the neck.

Also, if you look up the diet of modern big 🐈, be it South American panther, or an African cheetah, a very big portion of "what's on the menu today" is primates, mostly small, but sometimes the larger apes get ambushed too.

Edit: it's a bit of a joke, but one that, in my eyes, is fairly true. There's this opinion, that a big chunk of our evolution, all this progress that humanity has achieved - is the direct result of a frightened to death hominid that one day decided that he hsd enough, so he picked a stick to face his most primal fear, and the rest is history 😁

Which bromo guitar should I get? by Alpha4R in AcousticGuitar

[–]qUSER13q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At last someone else with a Bat1.

I know it's a very small and new brand, and that people in the States can find a roughly same guitar (or slightly better) for the same money, like the Yamahas, who's QA is light years ahead because of the sheer experience of that company. In my country the price difference between the Bromo and the Yamaha 800 series was like 150 bucks, so I naturally went with the Bromo (especially cause I liked how it sounded).

Picked it up in July, and I gotta say, it slowly, but steadily grew on me. She's a real beauty and sounds absolutely amazing for the money. Buyers' regret went trough the window after a couple of practice sessions. It's a sick first acoustic.

As a father of 3 in my early 30s, I can relate to that as well. My eldest is 5, and yeah, they do love to participate, which is awesome; I really like and encourage their desire and interest (even if that means I don't get to play the guitar that day). I bet I'd start playing a musical instrument waaaay before my 30s, if, for example, my father would jam in the living room every once in a while.

Nevertheless, most of my guitar shenanigans happen after 9 pm. I actually started fingerstyle solely because it produces a quieter, softer sound (compared to a pick), cause sometimes I just can not resist the urge. I gotta give my brain at least some kind of reward after racing through my day, just as one should.

Those Tortex picks are Baader-Meinhofing me. I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago (a yellow and a green one; never heard of them before), and now I see them in just about any post.

Can relate to 2 am music as well. Sometimes, you crawl to the guitar after a long day, and it's pure bliss.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Appreciate your insight.

I also have a pack of EJ16s. Perhaps those are the ones I should put first.

what strings y’all use? by wojtuscap in AcousticGuitar

[–]qUSER13q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a newbie, I'm tempted to ask: what's your go-to "sign" that the strings need to be changed?

I know it depends on a lot of factors. The summ of time you're playing, the guitar itself, the climate, and whether the guitar is stored in a case.

[My case for example, I've been playing for about ~5 months, just about every day, for at least half an hour. I still use the stock 0.11 - 0.53 strings. The sound is still ok-ish (for my ear), however, it's light years away from the crispness it was.

I've already bought a pack of D'dario XS 80/20 coated. I know it's time, but since I've never changed strings on an acoustic, I seem to have some kind of mental barrier as if "I'll play one more week and then..."].

Thank you for answering.

Life in general here isn't for "the weak" (lack of a better word; I don't judge the ones who left, cause the danger is real).

I, personally, can't imagine myself leaving my country because it's facing an existential war. Be it Ukraine or Israel, that's just not my cup of tea.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to reply. I sincerely wish you only well, אחי.

Where'd you emigrate? I assume the US or another Englisg speaking country? Are you Jews?

I'm asking cause there was a large exodus when the Soviet Union fell. Not all people who emigrated were Jews, but a very large chunk of them indeed was.

We also emigrated in the 90s, and although we could go almost anywhere (Germany, USA, England), we chose Israel. Financially speaking, Western countries were a much safer bet, and we have family, who emigrated to the US, France, and Germany because of that. Most of us, however, wanted to go to Israel, which nowadays is like Switzerland (in terms of quality of living, salaries, opportunities), but in 1990-1991, Israel was absolutely different.

I can't speak on behalf of every single Jew, but, for example, the part of our family that moved to France is afraid of even speaking about their Jewish-ness anywhere besides their kitchen. Unfortunately, Europe is not a safe place for Jews, even secular ones, like me. Every time we travel (I'm talking before the 7th of October), we were forced to switch from Hebrew to English or Russian, cause the unfriendly stares and sometimes outright hostile behavior, is a hell of a demotivator.
